Looking to tap into the vast well of fiction knowledge out there concerning good Bronze Age historical fiction and heroic fantasy/S&S. I have read Scott Oden's Men of Bronze, and Stonehenge; When Atlantis Died by Harry Harrison. Both were very good, especially Oden's book, but that is about all I have read concerning Bronze Age fiction. What do you folks suggest? What have you read that you would recommend? Emphasis on blood and thunder carnage and bigger than life Bronze Age heroics!

Those are both excellent books (just reread the Harrison book a year ago), but the Oden novel is set well within the Iron Age. Do you want books set in the actual Bronze Age or books that mention bronze? BTW, good to see you here, TDM.

Oops! MOB was awesome, but you are right, the blades in use at that time were indeed iron! I guess what I am looking for is fiction/fantasy/S&S in a setting before quasi-medieval Iron Age Europe. Something older, Bronze Age or even early Iron Age. I have Manning Norvil's Dream Chariots and Crown of the Sword God, and they would seem to fit the bill. I just read a short fantasy story about Gilgamesh that was a rocking good pulp tale that got me fired up to find more in the same vein.

Oden's Men of Bronze and Harrison/Stover's Atlantis are also two of my favorites. You might like Stephen Pressfield's Gates of Fire or Wilbur Smith's River God.

Loved River God. Smith's The Sunbird is also cool, with the first part of the book set in contemporary (70's) South Africa, and the second part is a parallel tale with similar characters but in ancient times. I recently picked up Gates of Fire, so I have that to look forward to... Anybody read The First Heroes anthology yet? A collection of Bronze Age tales edited by Harry Turtledove, I think?

Here's the link for TFH: turtledove.wikia.com/wiki/The_First_HeroesI see maybe 4-5 authors worth reading. Turtledove's story looks like crap: turtledove.wikia.com/wiki/The_Horse_of_BronzeAll in all, I might pick it up for $2.

A few more suggestions in addition to the above:
Tides of War, and Last of the Amazons by Steven Pressfield.
The Troy trilogy from David Gemmell - Lord of the Silver Bow, Shield of Thunder, and Fall of Kings.
Also, Lion of Macedon and Dark Prince. Though these last are a little late for Bronze Age (time of Alexander)and mixed with fantasy elements, they're still a great read.
