Well I know nothing about how video game licensing works, but one of my favorite games of all time was Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag - that would make a stupendous Conan the Pirate game I think. Personally I would rather it not be open world. Got tired of open world games years ago. Back when I did play video games on a regular bases, I wouldn't touch a game if it was open world. Agreed. A good way of doing it is an overworld map containing discrete areas with their own levels. Prevents massive amounts of empty space filled with nonsense and blah.

In that case go for something that follows the template of God Of War 2018. It has a semi-open world (basically the heart of the gaming area is a single hub) but the rest of it is quite linear. Shame the game has apparently been put on the back burner, but these things happen.
