I just purchased the THQ Conan game for the PS3. I know it's basically a God of War clone, and that Ron Perlman voices Conan, but does anyone here have any thoughts? I *may* Twitch stream the game as well if I feel so inclined.

I thought the 2007 video game was fun, it's a "button masher" but IMO it captured the "Conan vibe" (comic book version). And despite being over a decade old and a linear game, it's a far a more immersive experience than Conan Exiles.

Conan exiles is a little different as its in the open world survival genre and from what I've read is regarded as one of the best of its sort. The time is probably ripe for a new Conan game in the CRPG genre. Lonewolf, did you notice that one of the mods moved your Scythian review link to our Russian Cinema thread? That was a great summation by Matthew David Surridge.

That was a great summation by Matthew David Surridge. I was really excited for Conan Exiles, the cut scene intro was cool and the game looks great, but after the first hour or so it's boring as heck. The main focus is building, which isn't my thing, and the NPC's are lifeless. And yes, I did notice that my thread was moved, I really enjoyed "The Last Warrior/Scythian", IMO the film had a very "Howardian" vibe.

This is fun so far. I just beat the gigantic pirate chief with the big hammer.

It's a fun game. A'kanna is pretty much an expy of Belit, but the story isn't bad, the environments are really nice, Ron Pearlman and Claudia Black (V/A for A'kanna) both do great work (but try to name something Pearlman isn't great in, though), and the combat is widely customizable with a myriad of different moves Conan can do (my favorite is a dual sword attack he cleaves off both of an enemy's arms ). I'd say it's definitely worth picking up for any Conan fan who's a gamer.

I found it hilarious that the most graphically polished objects in this game are the wenches Conan sets free.

The down fall of this game is the lack of polish in it's presentation. The game play is solid enough for a hack and slash, but the fact that it is only running at thirty frames per second is a serious negative! Hack and slash games NEED to be sixty frames a second! And the story is a mediocre pastiche and one that is not all that well told. It's an okay game that needed to spend more time in the oven. A must play for all Conan fans and a cheap buy for hack and slash enthusiasts, I happen to be both.

I've still got this game some place along with my old Xbox 360 Slim, and when i bought the Xbox 1X i really hoped that Conan '07 would be included at some point in it's retro-compatability list, but unfortunately that didn't happen, and now won't. I must admit to having a soft spot for the game, i mean it's basically a God Of War clone, and Conan moves like a tank, but Ron Perlman as Conan is great, the combat is seriously visceral, and there are enough locations to keep the player interested. As for the final boss battle? Legendary in it's awfulness!

I didn't get around to experiencing the infamous end boss battle; I give up midway through when the repetition started to kick in for me a bit too much. In retrospect, I regret not finishing it. It was the only reason I bought a Ps3 at a flee market a couple years back. I prefer Dark Axe tho. Hopefully in the future there will be some more hack and slash adventure Conan games.

Could be wrong, but i heard that the teams at funcom are developing (finally!) a Single Player Conan action game, hopefully in the tradition of God Of War 2018 and Assassins Creed Odyssey.

Well I know nothing about how video game licensing works, but one of my favorite games of all time was Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag - that would make a stupendous Conan the Pirate game I think.

Unfortunately that single player game seems to have been put on hold. Last I heard they were shifting their focus to yet another survival game, this time based on Dune.

Effectively a remake or whathaveyou of the original strategy Dune games from a couple of decades ago to co-incide with the new adaptation of Frank Herbert's book, due out in December. Kind of a shame that the new Conan game is on the back burner. Aside from The Dark Axe and '2007' i've waited for a new SP game for years.

Personally I would rather it not be open world. Got tired of open world games years ago. Back when I did play video games on a regular bases, I wouldn't touch a game if it was open world.
