Found this interesting video on youtube concerning REH's Conan, Lovecraft and Aleister Crowley:
Crowley vs. Conan & Cthulu
Description: In this talk, Michael McCormick contrasts the reactions of two pulp writers of the 1920s to the changing world views of the early 20th century with those of Aleister Crowley. The creator of Conan, Robert E. Howard, foresaw an inevitable triumph of barbarism, while the creator of the Cthulhu mythos, H.P. Lovecraft, wrote of an indifferent universe populated by beings so alien and inimical to human interests that their mere presence was a threat to life and sanity. Crowley, however, embraced Asian, pagan, and even anti-Christian symbolism and wrote of a new age of Horus -- “the crowned and conquering child, who dieth not, nor is reborn, but goeth radiant ever upon His Way.”
