Malmberg has been saying for years now things are happening , but no sign of a cartoon , film , TV series or even the pastiche novels. I think I've given up waiting for anything from Cabinet. Malmberg has successfully moved Conan to Marvel comics, attempted to get the Amazon series made, kept a watchful eye on the Fun.com games, and tried to convince Universal to go the King Conan route with Ahnuld. Unfortunately the franchise is dogged by bad luck at every step, which makes me wonder if Malmberg is asking too much for the licencing rights (film and tv-wise) for Conan, or whether there are contractual requirements that must be met unconditionally, like NOT making a 12A/PG13 Conan film (i.e Dwayne Johnson's Scorpion King film from years back.)

Malmberg has done a lot of good for Conan. People have a tendency to only focus on the negative. It's easy to sit back and point the finger at Malmberg and say he's not doing a good job, but the fact is we don't see what happens behind the scenes. Some may say that they know, but they don't. Not unless they work with him or are a part of the industry. Me personally, I think the Conan brand is damaged by Arnold. I think because of his two movies and a crappy 90's TV show, people have a big misconception of what and who Conan is. People think Conan is just another big buff action guy with a sword... in a long line of big buff action guy's with sword's. The Momoa film didn't help at all, but Malmberg did set out to make an REH Conan film, but needed help $. I think if Malmberg really wants to get a show or movie off the ground he will need to show people something they haven't seen before or find someone (Robert Rodriguez) in the biz that is a Conan fan and can also help him get this done.

Well for me he sold Conan to Marvel and as we can see he's letting them do what they want rather than look after the character as most of us , I think , would like . As he and the various companies he's been in charge of have been in the games industry for years I'd expect him to get at that right at the very least

Something needs to hit mainstream media in gaming, film or television to erase the petrified, stone-like monolith of Ahnuld as Conan and show them Howard's true legendary hero. There is a reason that the most famous Sword and sorcery character has survived for more than 80 years. Something needs to happen for the public to get to know him in visual media. Hopefully the single player game from Fun .com will provide that.

I don't think we'll ever get past Arnie as Conan sadly for a long time. I was hoping the Amazon series would have been a start but we've lost that. There's too many Arnie fans hoping for him to come back , even Fredrik keeps tweeting/liking pictures of him LOL!

Terry, the reason Frederik is doing so is he can't get any other iteration of Conan to work! Until Arnold chooses to retire, Malmberg still clings to the idea of one more Arnold Conan film, even if it only features Mr Schwarzenegger for 10 minutes as bookends. They need to start with a great young character actor and to get him to bulk up. Often said that Daniel Day Lewis as Hawkeye with double the muscle-mass would be a perfect Conan back in the day. Until then, our favourite Cimmerian will remain a cult success, unfortunately.

I think this tech has so much potential for Conan specifically, and sword & sorcery generally. Maybe Frederik Malmberg can dust off the Red Nails audio files & give ‘em to a talented animator.
i could see Conan exploring those ruins as-is.

That's a really good article. The fate of this project has always bothered me.

Reading that article is brutally disappointing. There could have been multiple animated feature length adaptations of Howard's Conan tales by now if this animated film had finished production and was released back in the day. Or an animated series done by the same studio adapting the works would have been just as likely. It's such a shame this came so close to being.
