S. M. Stirling's Conan: Blood of the Serpent, coming October 2022. It takes place before "Red Nails", so Valeria is probably in it. From Jason: Let's keep this thread dedicated to this novel, not the overall publishing program or opinions on how the program is being handled. Feel free to discuss that in the "New Conan pastiche" thread.

So the Conan.com website can't even get the date right for the first Conan story? Conan: Blood of the Serpent is slated to come out in October to commemorate a momentous landmark—the 90th anniversary of Howard’s first Conan adventure, “The Phoenix on the Sword,” which appeared in the December 1921 issue of Weird Tales. That story begat generations of unparalleled sword-and-sorcery adventure, and we’re shooting to do the same. Proofreader wanted...

Soo what will this be?
I am surprised this is coming out now. And is a half a year preorder time normal for English books?

I don't know this author. I had a look at his web site and it seems he has not written S&S, only SF. Seems a weird choice to me.

His long-running "Emberverse" series, set in an alternate present where advanced technology as failed and medieval weapons and magic have returned. He's also a Robert E. Howard fan who did an intro for at least one of the '90s REH story collections. One of his short stories, another alternate universe tale, "Shikari in Galveston", involves Cross Plains and a young warrior named "Robre". He's a better choice than some they could have made, believe me.

A few more details:
He's been on the S+S scene for a long while and recently interviewed John Hocking at Black Gate:
And here's an article he wrote on REH's Hour of the Dragon on his blog back in 2016:

Sorry lost me some where , what is S.E. Lindberg's involvement. Is it another name Stirling goes under?

Excellent news. I think he has written a couple of introductions in the REH Baen series & the intro(s?) to some of the Harold Lamb Bison books. ...also available for pre-order at Amazon UK. S. M. Stirling, Conan: Blood of the SerpentDescription: The pulse-pounding return of Conan, the most iconic fantasy hero in popular culture, with a brand-new standalone novel by New York Times bestselling author S.M. Stirling, tied directly to the famous tales written by the legendary Robert E. Howard.
Conan the Barbarian, the world’s most famous fantasy hero, returns in an all-new novel tied directly to the famous works by his legendary creator, Robert E. Howard.
Set early in his life, Conan has left his northern homeland to cut a bloody swath across the legendary Hyborian Age. A mercenary, a soldier, a thief, and a pirate, he faces conquering armies, malicious sorcerers, and monstrous creatures―against which he wields only the sword held in his powerful grasp.
A superstar of novels, short fiction, comics, video games, films, and an upcoming Netflix series, his adventures have inspired many of the most popular authors of the 20th and 21st centuries. This is the first in a series of brand-new, standalone adventures.

I don’t believe Lindberg is involved; this is likely a mixup between S.E. vs S.M. Easy mistake to make, I have mixed up the two authors myself several times! 🤪

Stirling wrote the Nantucket Trilogy that ties in with his ongoing Emberverse post apocalyptic series. In the Nantucket series the island is transported through time back to prehistory but remains in the same spot. The characters encounter indigenous people in what is modern day America. They also use the ships to travel across the sea to the British Isles and Ancient Greece, too.
From what I read he was really into the history and his prose was good.
I'm skeptical of a long Conan novel (traditional s&s should be shorter in my mind) but I'll give it a try.
Let's keep this thread dedicated to this novel, not the overall publishing program or opinions on how the program is being handled. Discuss those topics in the main thread.

First off I've pre-ordered this. Does anyone know who ships their items the best in the list of merchants? Amazon U.S., of which only lists the Kindle version right now (did the hardcover sell out?), always ships in bubble envelopes lately and a lot of times items arrive damaged.
The art on this still gives me no confidence. It is a placeholder, sure. And it is certainly better than the Living Plague abomination. This art looks really cheesy to me and again they use bad Marvel Volume 2 Savage Sword art.
The author's credentials, however, do give me confidence. But, if it is not appealing to the eye it could throw it off for me.

Wow. Also not off to a good start! Pre-order begins on March 25 . . . and yet only two of the 9 vendors have it available. Amazon only has Kindle version. Barnes & Noble has both the print and Nook version. Hudson has the book listed. All of the other sites either say product not found or that the page does not exist.
Hopefully they get this remedied soon!

Go easy on them for the cover they are showing. It's a placeholder using the wonderful Gerardo Zaffino's artwork.
However, it's a big no no to do a placeholder cover. They always seem to show up in internet searches even after the completed cover eventually appears.
Better to just not release one at all. Would think they'd have learn that lesson from the Perilous Worlds attempt.
By the way, Gerardo Zaffino is a treasure to the industry and I wish he'd illustrate more sword and sorcery comics.
