Love Gerardo Zaffino's artwork, love to see him adapt a Conan yarn, something akin to the original Glenat volumes or SSoC. I hope we get painted covers, not those horrid photoshop covers.

Zaffino is indeed great, I like a lot of his stuff, and I generally like artists that have different styles in general. However, I just did not like his Savage Sword stuff.
And I get it, just because they own the rights to publish a Conan book, does not mean they have the rights to all Conan art. They are using what they have access to.
I just think this placeholder does nothing to help sell the book. The graphic design is mostly what bothers me, however.

A lot of artists use Photoshop these days to paint, simply because it is easier. With the proper tools and setup, you can paint nearly like you can with actual paint. You also get an 'Undo' button!
With some art done in Photoshop you would be hard-pressed to determine what was hand painted and what was done in Photoshop.

Yeah, we still don't have a cover or description for the book yet, it'll take time I guess. I would not be surprised if it is released a little later than October, but it least it looks like, for now it will happen. Zaffino's father, Jorge was the artist for SSOC 162.

Yeah, I agree. Sorry, I probably got carried away. I acknowledge that artists with Photoshop can produce some great work. I was talking about covers like the lacklustre ones found in the Gollancz Conan series.

However the cover turns out I hope they keep Robert E. Howard's Conan at the top , while in the blurb I really wish they replace Conan the Barbarian with Conan the Cimmerian. CtB really has too many links to Arnie's film.

Yeah, it should be Conan the Cimmerian in the blurb, hopefully that will change and reflect the contents of the novel a bit more in the final product.

Hun, the cover art you posted for the Gollancz editions are what can be called, "clip art covers." Sadly, that's the way the mainstream book industry is going. When GRRM's A Song of Ice and Fire series started selling millions with clipart covers, that really made the industry embrace it. They existed before but I think the success of the A Song of Ice and Fire series made the mainstream publishers believe they didn't have to pay for a cover artist anymore . Titan is the publisher of this, so I will be very surprised if we get an actual cover artist like back in the Del Rey days. I'm thinking it could be clipart similar to what you posted. I'm a big Philip José Farmer and Titan published about a dozen of his novels in a series several years ago.... all had clipart covers. Go to: titanbooks.com/ and check out the cover art. Best case scenario is Conan gets the treatment of the World of Warcraft covers Titan publishes. Worst case, we'll get something like you posted or worse.

Slightly confused as some copy blurb says it's "set early in his life" while other copy says it's set before Red Nails which is at a later stage of his life. Hope they haven't screwed up the Conan chronology already?

Fredrik Malmberg: We use Conan the Cimmerian on many lines and titles and we don’t have an ambition to exterminate the use of Conan the Barbarian. Terry Allen: Thought it would help to be consistent

The vagueness of the blurb makes me think that it's as much of a placeholder as the cover. Presumably we'll get a more specific one as we near the release.

That's what the millions of other people living on this planet know the character as.

Hopefully, we get something like the Warcraft covers, but much better
