Class CBR click bait www.cbr.com/rings-of-power-flashbacks-outdo-warner-bros-lotr-movies/They put Silmarillion in the headline, then do admit they CAN'T adapt the Silmarillion due to rights issues, but then still go through things they can't adapt directly since they don't appear in Lord of the Rings (i.e. the Kinslayings). Supposedly a dwarf character Narvi didn't appear due to last minute recasting but may show up in Season 2. His big thing was being friends with Celebrimbor and I suppose helping him make the dwarf rings. Again, not sure how much of this is actually in LOTR (his main mention seems to be building one of the gates), but maybe they can get away with it since someone's gotta make those rings, may as well be him! CBR - for an outlet trying to promote the new Rings of Power they do keep referring back to the LotR trilogy a hell of a lot, almost like they want some of its success to carry over by association. Imho Amazon Studios just do not have the right people involved to make RoP a huge success. Even the good folk over at the Hollywood Reporter are beginning to speak about their reservations: *That THR article was linked to in the other CBR article you posted in the TV Show thread. And they cast sand in their own eyes by quoting Parrot Analytics in it - bless 'em. Disparu did a whole breakdown of it.

Bear McCreary’s work is excellent, he’s the Giacchino of TV, a modern guy who gets how dynamics work in music.

I stopped following CBR long ago, just not worth it. I mainly watch it for the little bits of news hear and there but their articles are really painful at times, I see the headline, just shake my head and move on.

By basing it on actual history, hopefully it’ll give it more focus than feel totally forced. If they dwell too much on the women warrior thing like a subplot, it’ll be distracting. That needs to be a quick reference. I get the point of wanting to focus on the character that survives, that’s understandable.

Another thing with War of the Rohirrym, it would also give a thread between Helm’s daughter and Eowyn, since she’s narrating. It’ll all be in the execution.

Finishing up Return of the King (on the Scouring of the Shire) but boy am I surprised how much of a non-character Arwen is in Tolkien's novels. She's basically Aragorn's prize/reward for doing everything he did during the trilogy. He set out and did everything Elrond hoped, so Elrond (who is Aragorn's distant ancestor, too) allows him to have his daughter.
No wonder Jackson and his writing partners were trying to do everything they could to expand the role in the original trilogy. They replaced Glorfindel with her in Fellowship for the save scene at the river, tried to have her at Helm's Deep during Two Towers before the footage leaked online and fans flipped out, and tied her to the fate of the ring in Return of the King. I had thought the original trilogy was fairly faithful, but oh, boy, was I wrong. Don't get me wrong, it's good enough, and you have to cut out some stuff from the novels, but jeez, they really tried forcing Arwen into something that was worthy of casting Liv Tyler.
In the novels Eowyn gets far more attention and character development. Hopefully they keep that up in the War of the Rohhirim movie which she's doing the voice over for.

I’m still smarting from Al Harron’s reaction when I said it was a good idea to replace Arwen for the random elf who rescued Frodo. I’m hoping if Glorfindel does show up in Rings of Power that they get him right.
