I think we can all agree that Howard's originals are the best, hands down, but SSOC did some wonderful stories that captured many of us in our misspent youths.

I'am gonna skip it. I've read this before, and I'am not a collector. I prefer the Dark Horse adaptation by Truman and Giorello. The DH adaptation is masterful. Truman did a fantastic job writing it from a first person perspective. Giorello's art is far beyond what is seen normally in modern day comics. I wish Marvel would print a collection of the King Conan comics DH produced. Some of them are so expensive now.

erm i prefer the howard text version. classic. but i am blessed with a great imagination. enjoy your comics. whatever thrills your eyes. Nobody on this thread wrote that they think the adaptation is superior to the original Howard story.....

Yeah, the Colossal King Conan is extremely rare these days and expensive once you find a copy. I'm sure Marvel will get round to reprinting the Truman/Giorello King Conan adaptations soon.

SSOC #8 and #10 will be done, so the entire story will be in color. To get a consistent look, they may have decided to recolor all the HOTD material, but we'll have to wait until we see it. I know sometimes Amazon doesn't discount HCs and trades until they come out and even then it's not guaranteed. I would rather they didn't colour SSOC. That was part of the charm. But that's just, like, my opinion, man. It's still worth picking up. They're available in B&W in the old DH phone books or in the new omins (it's in both SSOC V1 and CTB V2). This is their attempt to "right the wrong" of not having it all done in color in GS Conan back in the 70s. Whether or not they get it right is another matter. Someone on the Masterworks board posted an image of a recolored set of Captain America comics that were faithful to the original colors but looked fresher (aka no heavy browns or greys). This would be different since they're coloring them from scratch but if they use that as a basis, it might look ok. Fingers crossed.

I really should. Maybe a resolution for the new year.

I recently skimmed through SSOC 8 and noticed the heavy ink washes by Yong Montano over Gil Kane's pencils, it'll be interesting to see the results in color.

They should have the Treasury Editions pinned up in front of them as a guide to show them HOW to color B&W to make it look like it SHOULD be in color.

In the Marvel Art of Conan the Barbarian book they have restored the colors from a panel found in the Marvel Treasury edition of Black Colossus and a lot from later CtB issues including some King Conan art so it looks like they should have enough practice with the color palette from those days. If they do a good job coloring on the SSOC issues I know I'll be tempted to pick this up even though I already have HotD in the 2nd CtB Omnibus.

Here's a video by Omar having a butcher's at the Hour of the Dragon TPB and the 4th volume in the Conan chronicles series:
FIRST LOOK: Conan Chronicles Epic: The Battle of Shamla Pass & Conan The Hour of the Dragon
I dunno if it is the lighting on the video but it looks like the restored colors from the CtB omnibus have altered slightly to match the newly colored SSOC issues. I dunno, it could just be the lighting or my imagination.

Gotta say from what I see in the video, it looks like they did a really nice job. I don’t buy much these days but I may plunk down for this.

So, is direct market January 1st and the general release January 14th? Or is January 1st the UK/Europe release? Comic shops in the UK (not sure about the rest of Europe) should have copies on display today - the comics are usually on sale a day later in the UK when there's a holiday the previous week. The Hour of the Dragon TPB will be available in a couple of weeks time at book stores/Amazon.
