Finally picked up the first issue today.
Enjoyed this more than the Queen of the Black Coast adaptation.

Howard’s barbarian at his most savage and ruthless. Conan has always been one of my favorite characters in comics and I’ve often referred to the Marvel fare as Conan lite. Ablaze’s Conan full and robust. If you’ve never read the original stories you may have to take it in small doses. But once you’ve gotten used to it by the gods! Just picked up Red Nails #1; only flipped through, haven't properly read, but one thing that jumped out at me:
The story in the back? Teeny, tiny type. I think it's printed in like 6 pt. type. Seriously, it's like they typeset the whole thing like a footnote.
A sample, since you can edit font size on these posts:
The woman on the horse reined in her weary steed. It stood with its legs wide-braced, its head drooping, as if it found even the weight of the gold-tasseled, red-leather bridle too heavy.
OK, posting here lets you go down only to 8 point, which is what that intro sentence is in... so that's even bigger.
Credit where it's due, the printing is clear and readable, but still... not an ideal way to read the prose. I get page counts are important and all, but sheesh...
Ah well. So far I like the art better than QotBC but only by a bit... again, has very european feel to it. Great job on the monsters and ruins though, and those are the stars of the story in a lot of ways.

Kind of like how they fast run the end credits of movies these days on TV so it can end on time without editing too much of the film itself. The other thing I noticed is the amount of time they spent on the dragon sequence, it felt like almost a third of the book. In the original story it's like two or three pages out of around 100. They haven't really gotten to the main bulk of the story. If this was a three issue series, it'd be more understandable. |

So this is definitely only two issues? If so, then yeah, there isn't much room for the rest of the story now. I really enjoyed the first issue, but I figured it was going to be a longer series. There's a lot to cram into the final book.

Two issues for Red Nails, eh? I have to admit I haven't checked out the French edition but 60-some pages seems a little light given the length of the story. Unless they really speed up what happens indoors.
