With everything that has happened in recent months, is it time to finally forget about picking up new Conan comics? From what I can ascertain the majority of REH fans are disappointed with the recent Marvel relaunch. Considering there's nothing Conan/REH related until the July the 15th, is it about time we just let this stuff go? I'm almost there! I'm gonna pick up the Glenat translations by Ablaze, but beyond that I'm not really enamoured with, or expect anything worthy of my attention from Marvel.
I know I have posted my interest in Aaron's King Conan, only cos I think, potentially, the series could offer something different. By the way, I'm probably being overly generous and optimistic with the preceding sentence.
The ol' Marvel Comics by Roy Thomas, BWS and John Buscema are enough for me. I even enjoy the early DH stuff, but maybe it is time for me to stop wasting my time and money on the recent substandard renditions of the Cimmerian; and let us be honest it is probably time to stop wasting time and money on substandard comics from Marvel & DC altogether.
What do you think?

I think you must be strong-willed to have made it this far! I stopped buying the new Marvel stuff many months ago. I agree with you, old Marvel Conan is really all I need. I've dabbled in the Dark Horse stuff, and it has its moments, but none of it compares to the old stuff. In fact, I'd be hard-pressed to come up with any new title from the past 20 years that grabbed me like early Savage Sword does. Maybe some Euro books like Lament of the Lost Moors or Redhand, but certainly nothing Marvel or DC.
Last year I got a bug in my head about selling off all my floppies except for Savage Sword. Rumor has it I'm about to get furloughed for a month or two, so maybe now's the time...

I have most of the Conan Comics published in France but I have never bought any of the Panini french versions of the Marvel 2019. I already said how desperate the original are… And certainly will not if Marvel continues this way...

I am also disappointed with the new Conan stuff from Marvel. I prefer the original Roy Thomas versions. I hope one day his REH adaptations will be collected in color.

I'm doing it digitally so it doesn't take up much room or time to get them. I usually read them in a relatively short time so if I'd stop it really wouldn't affect everything else I'm doing.
Maybe just finish the Zub arc out and try the first King Conan issue. But even if you stop now, I think we'll all basically agree you're not going to be missing anything earth-shattering.

The Marvel relaunch just wasn't good enough in either art or story for me and stopped after issue 3. The only thing I missed were the stories by Scott Oden and John Hocking, but I hope they published on their own.

I read 3 or 4 issues of CtB/SSOC/SA and the Belit/Valeria minis and that was enough for me , nothing I hadn't seen before and not as good as those , especially at the price comics are these days.

I agree with you all. I have a big collection of old Marvel, SSOC, etc plus the Dark Horse up to the QOTB debacle. I find myself going back to them regularly. The newer Marvel - I bought a couple, read them once, never looked at again

I agree completely with the general sense that the Roy Thomas-Marvel Era is still the gold standard for Conan in comic form. Only the Dark Horse Truman-Giorello REH adaptations have come close. And none, none of the pastiche storylines for any of the comics that have been spun up in the 27 years since Roy left have approached his best work.
Nevertheless, call me sentimental but I’d purely hate to see the monthly comic discontinued and I want to stick with it. Zub clearly has the right attitude and seems to have the chops to tell some good Conan pastiche tales. But more than that, the monthly Conan comic, for better or worse, has been a companion to me since I was a kid. And I’m an old man now. The only time I wasn’t checking out Conan’s monthly mag was when it wasn’t being produced. I’ve seen Conan comics come and go and am curious what may come next.

I admire your loyalty emerald. I wanted very badly to stay committed to the Marvel relaunch, but I just couldn't rationalise the expense for the little to no enjoyment I was getting from it. I wish Marvel was run by fans and not accountants so that they would have seen the sharp drop in sales and say 'hey, we're getting it wrong' and go back and take a hard look at what they did and change it for the better.

Yeah, I got rid of my SSOC collection last year, I regret that now. Hopefully, I can manage to pick up SSOC omnibus editions in the future, if I can afford it. I wish you well my friend, hopefully we can get back to some kinda normality soon.

Yeah, I'll probably reluctantly stick with the main book. I agree wholeheartedly, Conan and comics have been an integral part of my life for around four decades. Even if I'm not enamoured with the recent comic books - BY CROM & TENGRI there should always be a Conan comic on the shelves, even the mediocre ones by Marvel

Honestly I'd rather the comics failed and then_hope_that either Marvel do better or someone else can pick the Howard characters up. If not I'm happy with my books.

There's always the potential they'll get it right, eventually, probably, maybe. Along with the new movie and TV series and hand-drawn animated series and all the REH pastiche yarns published by Perilous ...

With the way the Conan collections have been selling, I don't expect Disney/Marvel to let Conan and friends go anytime soon. We can hope the new material gets better or at least more consistent. If not, they haven't really added anything significant to the Conan saga (at least yet) so we're not missing anything if we don't read it.
