I just hope that what happened to this series over at Amazon doesn’t happen at Netflix. I watch a lot of videos over on Vito Gesualdi YouTube channel (Vito the professional Idiot) and he and a buddy went to a protest to defend Dave Chappelle. A writer from Netflix who was supporting the transgender people grabbed his sign and destroyed it. Also the same writer falsely accused Vito’s friend of attacking him and his Buddha’s push and cracked his head on a concrete planter. I hope Netflix doesn’t have second thoughts on a masculine character life Conan over this. Not sure I trust Vito. In any case the feel of Conan can be captured even if the plot details are somewhat modified. FGD and VOLW would get rightfully criticized if adapted straight

Maybe I'm the neanderthal but I think you could do FGD almost straight from the page and only slightly tweak the ending (drop the dialogue and just have him catch her). She lures men to their deaths and she's the victim?!? However you'd need to be pretty forceful to get it pushed through and I doubt there's anyone out there who'd go to the wall for it. Another way around it would be after he defeats the brothers, he turns to Atali with sword drawn and heads for her, intentions questionable. Would the people who'd complain about the original ending be ok with that? Probably not.
Vale, absolutely not, a complete non-starter. You could take the bare bones of the story but almost every detail would have to change. However, the one saving grace is you could set it anywhere, have the girl be a plain old prisoner and go from there. Just thinking about how it was based on Cynthia and Quanah Parker, could they even do something like the Searchers anymore?

The guy who did that is a huge asshole, could have gotten Vito attacked.

Just thinking about how it was based on Cynthia and Quanah Parker, could they even do something like the Searchers anymore? I was wondering if they could a story based on this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bessie_(South_African_queen)Here's my take on each story: FGD: Change the dialogue yeah. It sounded rapey. Otherwise yeah it's a good story. Tower of the Elephant is a must adapt. It's one of Howard's best and it has very little objectionable content. God in the Bowl: It's a good early story and I do think that Thoth as an overarching antagonist has merit (albeit I wouldn't have them MEET until decades later). Rogues in the House: Also fairly workable but some changes may be needed (make it more explicit that Conan only spares his former lover because of how pathetic she is) and work around some of the weird evolution things in there. Black Colossus: Workable with one change; I'd have it that a.) numerous Shemites and others fled north rather than serve Thugra and b.) have these refugees play a key role in Thugra's defeat. Conan's decision to trust them over Thespides' objections is what ultimately helps swing the tide in his favor. Queen of the Black Coast: This should be an entire season in and of itself. Adaptations that fleshed out the rest of the Corsairs (Roy Thomas's run, and much as it pains me to admit it Brian Wood's run) were on the right track. As for Belit herself I'd make her more nuanced. On the plus side I'd have her be opposed to the Slave trade and being willing to offer quarter to sailors (unless of course they're stygian) and only really going apocalypse if they refuse to play ball (Belit gives Tito an offer to surrender; he refuses and she wipes out most of the crew; she agrees to spare the survivors because Conan asked.) In short Belit's fairly ruthless but she does have a genuine set of standards. People of the Black Circle: I would change details but hear me out. I always felt that the Masters would have worked as an overarching antagonist/set of villains that Conan indirectly encounters. Them being the power behind the Turanian throne is more explicit. A Witch Shall Be Born: For Salome I'd give her the Reileen Kawahara treatment in that Salome's still an irredeemable monster but you can understand WHY she became one (even without the demon heritage her backstory's rather fucked up). The dungeon scene would have Taramis show more backbone and directly call Salome out on her actions.

Good question. As I see it all the dem’s that tell all of us to be “tolerant” are the ones who go around attacking people. Also, Vito is a self proclaimed dem. Not at all on the “right”. Anyway, some news on this project would be nice, concept art, name of the writer or something.

Anyway, some news on this project would be nice, concept art, name of the writer or something. Definitely. Supposedly they had a show runner BEFORE Howards Days. Amazon at least had a named team all lined up and working. I think the word was there are a couple of scripts ready and they were working on the show bible. The question is...who?

I don't think in this day and age that they will be able to do something like The Frost Giant's Daughter in its unadulterated form. Like it or not, the social politics of the day will always have an influence.
This holds true for REH's other works.
Personally, I think someone can find it just as offensive that some murderous Witch and her oafish brothers are luring men to their deaths, as they can find a delirious Conan acting out of character and chasing down Atali so that he can rape her, I mean he was in some bewitched trance.
We don't have to agree with the actions of the protagonists and antagonists to enjoy a good story.

It'd be great if we got an update from Fredrik Malmberg or Netflix, it'd maybe give us something to really talk about on this thread.

Why do so many people seem to only understand a narrative as a facile, transparent morality tale with all deeds and characters playing obvious roles in displaying a simplistic lesson fit for little children?

See Sword of Doom I get the point, but also maybe the fears are overblown? There's prominent, successful counterexamples out there if you look. "You" and "Dexter" immediately spring to mind, but I'm sure there's others, too.

...and it's guaranteed Conan will be woke as hell. There's is no way they are going to portray anything that even closely resembles a white man accurately to Conan's utter dominance and sway over women. It's not happening gentlemen. It goes far too hard against the agenda. Can someone explain to me how the existence & success of "The Witcher" doesn't directly refute this?

It goes far too hard against the agenda. Can someone explain to me how the existence & success of "The Witcher" doesn't directly refute this? I'm late to the Witcher party, but from what I've gathered, he's not really that much of a womanizer I'd suspect with his Elric-crossed-with-Solomon-Kane look. That's probably the aspect of Conan that would draw the most attention from one side or the other depending on the approach taken. Also seems to be, despite Cavill's presence, more of an ensemble show where Conan is going to be the central focus and practically all the other secondary characters will end up off to the side in one form or another. But it does bode well for Conan in the sense Netfilx will go with a show that pushes S&S boundaries into more violent territory. Again, if we can just hear SOMETHING about it, a lot of the random speculation will subside. No one's going to put Ryan Condal on the right side of the slate, but his show got axed because it didn't fit with what one person (the one in charge) wanted to present to the public. (And I will be watching Wheel of Time this weekend and Lord of the Rings next year.) We don't have to get totally despondent over it and go way overboard, but it's a reasonable question because of what happened at Amazon, what direction will Netflix go?
