I bet they will do a movie or a five episode mini series with Arnold to close out his version of Conan. Then we will get an animated series based on REH. Just my thoughts.
Arnold says he is still game and was in a social media post recently-ish playing with his sword.
I really hope not , this could be the last chance to finally forget his version of Conan.

Don't wanna see Arnie involved at all. It is time for a new interpretation of the Cimmerian on screen. He mentions the possibility/desire of working something out with Netflix in this recent interview: www.mensjournal.com/health-fitness/arnold-schwarzenegger-conan-the-barbarian-again/Now there are rumors of another Conan the Barbarian film that would see you return to the character you’d originally brought to life. Any thoughts on that?
I think it would be good to do a Conan movie that is kind of like Unforgiven, where we come back to Conan, now old, who’s sat on his thrown for 40 years. He’s become one those kings and leaders he despised when he was young. He’s fallen into that same trap. He’s become complacent—and fat. Now he’s eating too much food and enjoying all the women around. He’s an older man who’s not worth anything. He starts to feel like his life is slipping away, being taken away from him and he has to get his life back together—this being his reluctant comeback tale. There’s a great story in there, and Milius had already written a fantastic script about that comeback. There have been other great writers and directors who’ve shown interest in putting it together, but we don’t own the rights. They say there are some talks with Netflix, and I know a lot of people there because I’m currently working with them. I think the best thing would be to get everyone in a room together so we can move forward. Out of the 40-something movies that I’ve done, there are certain characters that people want to see again. Conan is one of them.

Horrible idea. The character he's descibing is even further away from Howard's Conan than he was in the Milius movie.
Conan getting complacent and eating to much? I think not.
I love Arnold but he should just let the character go so that there is a chance to see an adaptation closer to the Howard stories.

I agree. I doubt Arnold has ever read any REH. I also agree that it’s time to put his version of Conan to bed. I just don’t know if Netflix and Malmberg feel the same.

If anything, the Milius movie is probably the main reason it is so difficult to convince the industry that there's a lot more to REH's Conan.
The sooner we get a true adaptation of REH's Conan on the screen the better.

I love the original film for what it is, and the fact that it introduced me to Conan. But I hope a new film/series is nothing like it.
In my opinion at least, the film (both story and characters) are so far apart from REH's work that I keep them as completey separate in my head. The film is a fun diversion, but it's not really Conan.
I would like to see something based on the original works, one of the yarns turned into a film. Or several of the shorter ones into a series. To be honest at this point, I'd also be happy seeing some of Thomas or Busiek's comic runs being turned into a series, as long as they stick to the original character. Basically something very different from the 1982 film.

To be fair my introduction/basis of the character of "Conan" was the Schwarzenegger movies (and to a lesser degree Savage Sword), but even after reading the 3 Del Ray editions I don't see the movies/characterization as a huge deviation from the source material? There are some scenes where Schwarzenegger comes across as "goofy/awkward", which I think is due his accent and being new to acting, but I don't think Conan is portrayed or written as being "dumb". There is definitely a "next level magic" to Howards writing and I'm a covert, but IMO the movies come pretty close to capturing the overall vibe of REH/Conan.

Conan the Barbarian certainly captures the REH vibe even if it doesn't get all the details correct. Destroyer however really loses all that for me, the lower budget and refocus on a lower rating proved detrimental to it. It's closer to the TV show than the first film.

Vibe and atmosphere, definitely. I watched it again last night, trying to work out why I find it so far apart. My favourite original stories are the thieving/horror based ones, so climbing towers, sneaking around and giant snakes are a big plus. I think the main thing is the origin/slave/revenge story, as to me it changes how Conan grew up and why he's doing what he's doing, what drives him.
But maybe I'm just overthinking it 😅

Come on guys, the dark an brooding character in "Conan the Barbarian" has almost nothing to do with Howard's Conan. Where's his fun and joy of life?
Would Howard's Conan whine that somebody killed his "mutha and futha"? Would he live in slavery for many years? No way! Don't get me wrong, I love the movie but it's not Howard's Conan by a long shot.
In fact Jason Momoa's Conan is a much better representation of the character. His movie was crap though.

He did get laid a lot in that picture, that has to count for something.

I just watched the “Werewolf By Night” trailer for Marvel and I gotta say, I think I would very much like to see a live action REH series done in that black and white 30’s 40’s “grind house” style. I think that would be cool.

I think Conan done in that style would work. Just my thoughts.
