Yes watching House of the Dragon with Ryan Condal's name all over it makes one think what might have been!
His quote about Tolkien being influenced by Howard is pretty ridiculous though. I seriously doubt the American pulps were making their way over to him to read.
We've talked about this a few times in the past. It comes down one nice comment from Tolkien in the 60s, possibly right around the time of the paperback craze and confirmation Weird Tales was available in the UK to some extent in the 30s. Knowing how far back Tolkien was working on his stuff, unlikely is probably the correct default position. Lord Dunsany would be a more probable influence if any.

Yeah, Tolkien (allegedly, after all we only have one source for this) saying he enjoyed Howard's Conan stories isn't the same as him being inspired by REH.

Midngihts Edge just released a new video about it, to save time no real update has been made on Netflixs Conan or the Solomon Kane, just a reafirmation that THERE IS a showrunner but is still unamed

Thanks for the video Karasuthecrow.
I wish I could be as optimistic about the Netflix series as Andre.

It is hard to be really optimistic after all that’s happened. Step one is getting the series greenlit after a two year wait, which still stuns me that they made a deal like that but you take what you can get. It better not drag into the new year.

No, not next year.
Fredrik Malmberg probably wouldn't tell us if Netflix let the series go later this year. He did not announce anything last time when the Amazon deal fell through.

A lot of speculation in there. I think he's vastly overestimating the chances of this series being made at Netflix, or anywhere for that matter. No, not next year. Fredrik Malmberg probably wouldn't tell us if Netflix let the series go later this year. He did not announce anything last time when the Amazon deal fell through. Yeah if we don't hear anything by December, I would consider it vaporware.

I have a feeling the Amazon situation was, as Andre put it when Ryan didn't say anything, a way not to poison a future well. Now if they lose Amazon AND Netflix, unless there's explicit contractual language, they should really say something this time around. Amazon was "we're developing a series!", Netflix was "we've got a series of developments!" To go from that to the world of Emily Litella ("Never mind") would be a bit much.
