Yes I think MJ would be perfect for a Sonya film. Solomon Kane might have actually worked better as a Sonya film, but it shows (insert pronoun here) can get the look down. |

Imho, MJB will get the job done well so long as the studio execs don't get too heavy handed and derail everything. Problem is with a potential budget of 100 million plus riding on the project they are likely to want a tight rein on production which would limit MJB's creative freedom. It's understandable that they would want more certainty and control with so much money involved, but ironically counterproductive. Only need to ask Neil Marshall what happened with the recent Hellboy to see how that turns out.

Yeah, best case scenario MJ gets a budget that's enough to get the job done, but modest enough to keep other chefs out of her kitchen.
She already made a kick ass Hammer Film with Solomon Kane. I think she'll know exactly what to do with Red Sonja. We need a 300 style movie, not a Marvel or DC flick.

For what I think about and look from with Red Sonja, I want it to be extreme championship sword and sorcery. Spartacus-style with the same hybrid techno/metal soundtrack. I want swirling waves of neon red hair, ultra-violence and plenty, and I mean PLENTY of T@A bursting from the seams in almost every shot. When the movie is over I want to thank it for the mammories. We need a 300 style movie, not a Marvel or DC flick. Exactly. Visually it should look like a mix of Spartacus TV show and 300. Hyper-stylized, with bright colors, special, not realistic but fantasy/comic book cinematography. I want to see Hyborian age and world that doesn't seem ordinary and recognizable from some of the movies about ancient history.
Anyway, Spartacus TV show is great example to follow in general for movie or TV adaptation of sword and sorcery comic books and novels.
Perfect casting-solid actors,men who look like real warriors, and women who look like women, not like emo freaks and anorexic models,
good script, proper mix of drama and action, excellent choreographed fight scenes with lot of blood and decapitation, and nudity.
The only thing I didn't like was the slow motion footage.
And no heavy metal in this genre, please - epic orchestral music only. That's how Red Sonja/Conan movie or TV series should look.

Good point. Funny how some go all 'practical'' when the 'issue' of Red Sonja's chain mail bikini comes up, but have no problems about so many depictions of Conan in superhero fur shorts. Find me a thread where everyone is so concerned about Conan's duds. |
