Dynamite's Queen Sonja run did an excellent story arc on young Sonja. It takes place after Sonja's rape and her family was massacred by the bandits. Sonja, just a kid, has joined up with another bandit group outside of Pah-Disha. The entire Queen Sonja run is quite good, and we visit Sonja as she runs the streets of Pah-Disha, thieving, not unlike Conan in the City of Thieves (or Arenjun, if you like). We also learn of the origin of Sonja's chainmail bikini. It has a purpose. I read this in the trade, Queen Sonja Vol. 3 - Coming of Age, and the story was originally told in Queen Sonja 11-15. I do recommend the Queen Sonja run, if you haven't read it. Thanks Boot, sounds interesting. I'm tempted by the omnibus edition. It was a great run. There's got to be more than just one omnibus, though. The Queen Sonja series I read was six trades, so about 30 issues or so.

This is super weird. Dynamite publishes so much but one of the most popular series they just stop making the omnibus version? Always kept me from buying the first one. TPB are too expensive in total right now sadly.

So, it looks like the Queen Sonja omnibus is $39.99 over at Amazon, and it includes the first three trades. The rest of the run is included in these three trades...
Queen Sonja 4: Son of Set. $19.99 at Amazon. Features the return of Thulsa Doom!
Queen Sonja 5: Ascendance. $18.74 at Amazon.
Queen Sonja 6: Heavy Sits The Crown. $29.99 at Amazon.
I was completely addicted to this run. I loved it.

Dynamite HAS to have plans to offer these in new collections in time for the film, I would think. Perhaps you'll get your second omnibus then?
Someone should try and get the Smith & Tierney novels out in ebook at least before the film hits.

It could be that sales of the omnibus editions are not as good as they expected. They probably do OK with all the variants of the monthly series. Some TPB volumes for the 1st volume are still available, but the omnibus editions have not been reprinted.
Hopefully, as mentioned above things will change with the release of the movie.

Just had a quick look, and (in Germany at least) all the volumes are available free on Kindle Unlimited. Not my favourite way to read, but it's ok occasionally. Especially if you don't like the thought of one omnibus and three trades on the bookshelf 😅

...little bits and pieces from twitter and stuff: Kinda looks like they're going for the Scorched Earth story arc with this one. I think. MJ and Matilda Martyn Ford as Karlak

I'm sorry. THAT. IS. NOT. RED SONJA. Unfortunately she is not. This sweet girl looks like the heroine of some Latino Telenovela or a Disney princess.
I was so disappointed with the choice of the lead actress who will represent one of my favorite comic book characters, that I haven't followed the news related to the movie for the last month. And what I learned and saw in the last few days did not inspire me with more optimism. On the contrary.
I saw Matilda with that awful wig (although I wasn't surprised that she would be wearing a wig because she doesn't naturally have lush and long hair like Sonja),
I saw the cheap costumes and make-up (in order to save on the budget, they hired Bulgarian make up artist and costume designers who made the Cimmerians into a gypsy tribe in Conan 3D),
I saw that this guy is going to play Osin
I found out that Gail Simone is still involved and that her characters remain in the script, as well as that the main villain was stolen from Mark Russell's run even though he was not credited.
But it doesn't matter, when Netflix chooses some short fat Mexican bald actor to play Conan, put the wig on his head and put him in the armor from head to toe,
and the fans riot because of that, I will tell them that looks don't matter, that acting is much more important.
If you're interested in how Sonja will definitely not look like in the movie, here's how:

The above image would have been a good look.
There is always the uncomfortable thought that the Red Sonja film will look something like the Hercules or Xena tv series from years ago.

Yeah, I think it is a shame that the movie seems to be based on recent runs at Dynamite instead of the earlier renditions of Red Sonja at Marvel. I think MJ Bassett has completely reworked the earlier scripts and tweaked characters from the Gail Simone run like Annisia. I doubt she has any significant influence over the movie now.

I am reading an excellent story arc for Red Sonja right now. It's the 4th omnibus. A prince in Argos decides to take on the King. They each hire mercenaries. Sonja is part of a Free Company.
What sparked in Argos--rebellion by the prince--spreads into Shem. Koth gets worried and sends troops south, across the border. And, Stygia has its clandestine fingers in the skullduggery mix, too.
It's a fantastic story (so far).

There is always the uncomfortable thought that the Red Sonja film will look something like the Hercules or Xena tv series from years ago. Well, if you are trying to present the Hyborian era, characters and monsters by shooting a film in a realistic style, with a limited budget and with Bulgarian costume designers and make-up department, as MJ does, then, yes, there is that uncomfortable thought.

Thinking about it, I would have preferred Lucy Lawless in the title role. She would have made a better Red Sonja back in the day, Xena budget style thing that is.
