And then (2014.) Gail Simone came along and decided to "fix" Red Sonja. I've got the Simone run, but I'm reading them in order, and I'm not there yet. Good for you.
There's a reason for that. Her version of Sonja is crap.
MJ posted a drone shot of the arena which indicates that Simone's gladiator plot is being used.
A photo of the (Draygan's?) chambers. Not so fancy but he is a young ruler so he didn't have time to steal more from the people he conquered.
And the castle/fortress doesn't look any more luxurious either.
I understand why MJ complains about the low budget in every video from the set. It looks like a set for a school play.

I've got to admit, I like RS not being in the chainmail bikini. I've read a couple of origins of the bikini. Some of them make sense. They're all a stretch. I dig the nostalgia of the bikini, but it's not all that practical, or even believable. I actually prefer the way she appeared the first time we saw her with a ragged chain mail top and leather strap kilt. In my recent read, Dynamite revisited the look...  She's too old to play RS now, but the face in the pic above always reminds me of Milla Jovovich (who, of course, does not match RS in the curvy department, either).  |

Also, for everyone talking about the Hyborian Age.... I'm not sure that's what we are going to get. Unfortunately not. Probably some poor man's Gladiator & Tudors.
I have seen better costumes in LARP games.
Unfortunately the script is based on a script by Huo and Soloway.
So probably we are going to see Sonja-the female Spartacus who are leading bunch of angry warrior women against toxic, evil men.
Exactly. Her Sonja wont stick out among other women in the movie, but not just because of the costume, but because Matilda simply doesn't look much more special and beautiful than other girls in the movie. When Red Sonja enters the tavern(in the novels and comics), all men and women stare at her, not only because of her costume of course.
I'm afraid that Matilda will be invisible in such a scene. So, yes, Matilda will have to deliver a Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton-level of acting and action performance to save this movie.

I wouldn't mind seeing her star in a sword & soul flick, myself. Definitely has the look and that's all you really need. Also, for everyone talking about the Hyborian Age.... I'm not sure that's what we are going to get.  Is it just me or does it look like Sonja's right leg is injured and at a weird angle around the knee? Appears to be wearing a sleeve of some kind. |

Look at all that generic scraggly fabric slash metal armour. I didn't know they were still shooting the old Xena: Warrior Princess series, although I have to admit that they have fallen somewhat in the costume and props department.  |
