Been a Marshall man myself since I traded $50 and a Marlin .22 rifle for a JCM 800 when I was fresh out of high school. Since then I've had a MOS-FET, two Valvestate 8100s, and a MG30CFX. As of now I only have one Valvestate 8100 and the MG30CFX (purchased recently), having let the others go through the years. I kinda regret letting the JCM800 go - pure tube drive, friggin' thing barked like a silver back gorilla and could keen like a banshee.

I needed another guitar like a hole in the head but my son's gf was selling this for her grandfather. Apparently he'd received it years ago as a gift but was more of an acoustic guy so decided to let this go. It's a 70's Ventura copy of a 1954 Gibson Les Paul Custom a picture of which can be seen at the link below. The guitar's pots all need cleaned, same with the toggle switch, and it has a couple of loose tuners. I plan on disassembling, cleaning, then installing a set of retro tuners and see how it does. As-is it sounds great - just some scratchiness when adjusting the tones and volumes. Edit: Also it has a mis-matched knob. I'm thinking a new set of top hats might be in order. spinditty.com/instruments-gear/The-Top-10-Greatest-Gibson-Guitars-of-All-Time#PhotoSwipe1454786271954

No worries. What once was old will become new again.

A pretty amazing cover of "Thunderstruck": Cool - love Ac/Dc. That guy's style reminds me of another guy - Andy Mckee.

Glen Campbell is dead at the age of 81. Think whatever you like about his music, but the man was a master of his instrument. I've known plenty of guitar players over the years -- who wouldn't be caught dead playing country -- who had nothing but respect for Campbell as a player.

Malcolm Young has passed. Although often overshadowed by his flamboyant younger brother, Malcolm’s amazing rhythm guitar was the rock solid foundation of the band, and the distinctive “sound” of AC/DC. He was a giant, and there shall be no more giants. Damn, seems like all my rock heroes are dying off...

Yeah, Malcolm was the "quiet one", but he wrote many of the riffs (and even some of the lyrics). Despite what some tried to claim, Malcolm (and the rest of the band) invented and defined a distinctive type of rock sound. It's amazing how widely loved they were/are here in the States. I've known plenty of people who were hardcore metal or country fans, but they made an exception for AC/DC as one of their favorite bands. Glad I got to see the boys live when they were in their prime. I played an AC/DC tune in my first band and in many after. RIP, Malcolm. Thanks for everything. A good write-up: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5095561/AC-DC-founder-Malcolm-Young-dead-64.html

I play guitar sometimes and I feel ok about it. I got my own style though and I think thats what you got to do to be satisfied with it cause it can be frustrating to break through and play in a way that makes you happy with it

Yeah, I actually heard his work with Fastway before any of his stuff in Motorhead. Fastway was a good damned band. "Say What You Will" is a hard rock classic.

The first drummer I ever jammed with was a huge Fastway fan. Glad I got to see Motorhead at least. Sad to see all these musicians leaving us. I hated hearing recently of Warrel Dane's passing - lead singer for Sanctuary (and Nevermore). His vocal range is high - like King Diamond/Rob Halford high, and their version of White Rabbit was a favorite of mine.
