Yeah, I actually heard his work with Fastway before any of his stuff in Motorhead. Fastway was a good damned band. "Say What You Will" is a hard rock classic. The first drummer I ever jammed with was a huge Fastway fan. Glad I got to see Motorhead at least. Sad to see all these musicians leaving us. I hated hearing recently of Warrel Dane's passing - lead singer for Sanctuary (and Nevermore). His vocal range is high - like King Diamond/Rob Halford high, and their version of White Rabbit was a favorite of mine. I was very enthusiastic about Sanctuary back in the day. Warrel Dane was a great singer.
too bad.

I've been playing guitar and singer/songwritering for over 20 years. I've dabbled with electric but I never had a band to play with so it's been acoustic all the way. Outside a couple beater guitars I have an Epiphone "John Lennon" EJ-160E, which looks and sounds great, but has wonky electric guts, and a Taylor 316ce. I can't shred or play riffs. I typically strum and occasionally improvise some finger picking. I'm basically the worlds okayest guitar player.

I'm basically the worlds okayest guitar player. That's a killer phrase - and I'm sure you're being modest. The fact you've stuck with it is what matters. My heroes are guys like Frank Aresti of Fates Warning and Andy LaRocque of King Diamond. Sure - I'll never be able to shred like Frank or flutter vibrato like Andy so I just play what's within my abilities. You might consider downloading a phone app called Songster if you're interested in learning riffs, or entire songs. It not only displays the tab, but you can easily switch from acoustic intros to the main riffs, to leads, etc and it plays it for you. It has the option of slowing it down while you're practicing and following along which is very helpful. Also, it has a huge variety of bands and styles so for sure you'll find something you've always wanted to learn. Killer Frank Aresti shred

Fate Warning is great.
A greatly enjoy the albums with John Arch on vocals.
Very esoteric and dream-like.

I watched the Prog Metal 2016 Atlanta show where they did the entire Awaken the Guardian album plus lots of others, stuff off Spectre Within, recently. A friend bought the box set. We tried to get tickets but didn't have any luck. It was awesome. Love that custom shop Music Man Aresti was playing. Yes, they're awesome. No Exit is a favorite, too.

Babymetal's Miko Fujioka tragically died after falling from an observation deck. Like the rest of the group's backing band, he was real top quality musician.

Just found out that Glenn Tipton won't be touring with Judas Priest because he has Parkinson's Disease. Apparently he's had it for 10 years but the band, as famously private as they are, didn't announce it and now his condition has finally advanced to the point that he can't reliably play anymore. I going to see the band next month but it won't be the same without either of the original guitarists there.

I saw them a year or two ago and noticed Ritchie Faulkner was doing a lion's share of the solos, even ones Tipton normally played. Glad I got to see him back in the day when he was at the height of his powers. Tipton always impressed me in that his playing always technically progressed over his career. I guess now we'll never get his long awaited solo album; Just the Tipton.

Anybody ever see this "Voodoo Child" jam with Zakk and Slash? Well, apparently Slash got Steve Vai to administer a little payback in the mixing/soundman department. In spades. Seriously, this is a master class in rock soloing. Would love it if a properly mixed clip of this came out.

playing electric will make you deaf...other than that its a lot of fun...you have the power of the thunderstorm at your fingertips...I think Hendrix was the first to realize that...many kudos to him

Such a shame that he's got Parkinson's. BTW, any Priest fans should check out Firepower. If it is JP's swan song, it's a fine one. Here's Razorfist's inimitable take on it.

Yeah, I heard he came out for the encore for the show in Newark. Apparently 10-15 minutes of playing is the most he can handle at a time.
I saw Priest a couple of nights earlier and it was really quite a show. Obviously the original guitarists were missed but Halford's performance was fantastic - he sounded a bit rough on the opening of Painkiller but got stronger as he went along - and Faulkner, who handled nearly all the soloing, is a fantastic guitarist himself. FWIW, the show concluded with the words, "THE PRIEST WILL RETURN" on the big screen, so as of right now they're not planning this to be their final outing.

Any Trouble fans?
Me and an old band mate have gotten back together after a 20+ year hiatus. I have to say, it's been great getting behind the fret board once again with him.
We're currently working on Too Late for Love by Def Leppard, and added The Wolf by Trouble to our short list.
I found this cover of The Wolf (only one I've found on YouTube) - dude does a great job!

My buddy Dave interviewed Zakk back in the mid 90s when he had a TV show at U of Ark in Little Rock. Somehow Old Bridge NJ came up and Dave mentioned he lived the next town over (as did I since Dave lived next door), the next 10 minutes were trading stories about all the record stores in the area! Nice to see a fellow Jersey boy do good!
