As for independent media, very important that we also get our news from journalists who are not simply reading from a script given to them by our leaders. The mainstream media has increasingly become nothing more than a propaganda rag controlled by large corporate/government interests.Β I think everyone who read Conan from an early age wanted to grow up and be a little like Conan to some extent, I mean Conan defeated the mightiest of foes, adventured around the world, and made it with the most beautiful women of his Age, what's not to like. Here's the thing - many haven't read Howard's Conan, or the ancient philosophers or The Art of War, or anything from modern sociology/psychology, even superficially, and it shows today... In very poor ways. An empty head is a breeding ground for other people's manipulations. Critical thinking is on par with the existence of dinosaurs. And the absence of a strong masculine figure to give young people an ideal or a role model produces these overall confused generations.

And the absence of a strong masculine figure to give young people an ideal or a role model produces these overall confused generations. Their unworkable ideologies have created confusion and chaos on a massive global scale, easy to do with a dumbed down population that will believe anything the media tells them, but it will be their own undoing. You noted 'The Art of War' and it made me think of this one. "In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.β Sun Tzu As history has shown, anything unworkable collapses or is eventually overthrown, this is especially true of totalitarianism initiated by weak and pathetic politicians, seems that every 80 or so years they make another try at total domination over the masses, surveillance and cancel culture have become all the rage now. Marcus Tullius Cicero had this to say about collapsing empires and it does explain some of the ridiculous trends and politics at this stage of the downward process. βThe closer the collapse of the Empire, the crazier its laws are.β I couldn't agree more.

I need to watch out not to turn this into a 'collapse of civilisation 2.0' thread However, I need to include my favourite Cicero quote and that concerns the origins of politicians. haha, well yes.

There is always an opportunity for those who know where to look for it π In the whirlwind of chaos, you need to reach out and grab the first end. Further, the knot unravels if we do not give in to the pressure. And that's where it falls today. Patience is gone, as is toughness.
And as for Cicero, I really liked his approach to the subject. Do you remember the one "Never was a government that was not composed of liars, malefactors and thieves." The reality is often disappointing. I guess that's why people run into illusions, to save themselves from what they think they are powerless in front of.
And yes... We went a bit further than expected with the theme π But, nevertheless, I believe that people who are fans of Conan the BARBARIAN will not mind π

As for Arnie's swinging style, since I was a kid I was swinging around the yard with sticks, bars, and later with a sword. The first time I swung a large two-handed sword, convinced that I was a master, I almost killed myself π
I hit my head with the flat side of the blade. I was lucky, because it could have been fatal. But we have practiced since then π I have gone all out in swinging round hollow steel bars, weighted towards the hilt with filled cement, emulating the more popular cutting motions and strikes, and have been more 'free' to try the more risky swinging styles, early on bashing in to my leg and side, wasn't pleasant, but better than cutting my leg off with the real deal. I also use a longsword, but in all honesty, I feel that my moves are more practical, I think this is both conscious and subconscious to a certain extent.

Only attractive and pleasing to the eye. I know how to fight, though, I've performed as a knight a few times. I met people who, in a real fight, would defeat me in two moves. And some I beat easily myself. But for the local rascals, it has long been known that they stay away from my property. So that some medieval fate would not fall on them at night π

So that some medieval fate would not fall on them at night π You are probably getting ready for the next Knightly Just Out festival in the Balkans. I always imagined you wouldn't need to go medieval on bandits all that much where you live, probably more of a stop along the way and have a chat and rakija with neighbours type of location.

The last time I was a part of Just Out festival was back in 2018. Now they are moving it from Despotovac to a more urban location, which is sad.
And there is no crime or thievery here, not that much. Every place has a troublemaker or two, and it's always well known who they are. Others are mostly as they described - fine rakija, grilling in the yard, a kettle by the river or lake, and good neighborly relations. It is a harsh people, grumpy and prone to physical confrontations, but with a good spirit and always there to help, even if they hate you. He will help you in your time of need, even out of spite if necessary π€£

'It is a harsh people, grumpy and prone to physical confrontations, but with a good spirit and always there to help, even if they hate you. He will help you in your time of need, even out of spite if necessary'I think you live in CimmeriaΒ And you are not far from the truth. Historicall Cimmerians inhabited this very area, which includes my region. But, yes - the people are interesting, to say the least. The entire Balkans, not only Serbia. Old Testament motifs pervade the mentality, belligerence is always there when needed - Balkans are otherwise excellent hosts, great friends to every foreigner, and despite popular opinion, racism almost does not exist here. Also song and drink, beautiful women, a good fight and a love for nature are omnipresent. All of Ex Yugoslavian are of the same Slavic origin with admixtures of Celts, Illyrians, Dacians and Tribals, so to speak, of all fierce tribes that inhabited these areas. And of course, the famous discord of the brothers in the Balkans is epic! As was with Howard's Cimmerians π
