They’re really playing up the Peter Jackson part of this Smart on their part. But this looks like an anime Red Sonja film to me. We better see Helm in plenty of action. At least we know one important action is there 😊. All signs point to another member of the family getting the most focus. The problem that may arise is one Drinker and others have brought up with projects that are a few years old coming out now (to their credit they did animation the old fashioned way but it takes a long time). The mindset when this was written was, shall we say, different and the things they thought would play into the zeitgeist are the things no one wants to see anyone. I watched some girl’s reaction to the trailer and by the end she was going “UGH! Not this again, I’m out!” Admittedly they had to come up with some approach to the two pages of material to flesh it out, but was it the right one? We’ll see.

I thought I heard a large collective *gulp* coming from somewhere once word got out that the Acolyte had been shitcanned. I guess it came from New Zealand and Japan.

War of Rohirrim trailer looks good, even the trailer for the 2nd season of Rings of Power looks a lot better than what we got in the 1st season - potentially, I hope.

My main hope with RoP is that they structure the plot a bit better. They really sped through a ton of shit in the last episode.

Well…they’re certainly trying something different compared to Season 1. I’m watching the first 15 minutes of Ep 1 and thinking “…what the hell does this have to do with Tolkien?” People joked about the black goo being Venom…the writers apparently weren’t.

OK, two episodes in and it's definitely different from last season. The cinematography is better...when you can actually see things. Parts of Ep 1 I thought I was watching the Long Night episode from GoT. They did finesse the Halbrand/Annatar situation far better than ?I thought they would. And they did manage to sort of work out the Elven rings issue they created for themselves by having them made first. But if you're looking for a closer adaptation of Tolkien's material...there's still a lot of making s**t up. Whether or not it all works out, we'll see.

Well, after watching all three episodes...it's got some problems. Overall, instead of stirring closer to the source, they seem to be pulling further away. The exception is getting Annular involved, which I said was done better than I thought they would. But it's not quite sure what it wants to do.

Yeah…it may not get THAT far but in the look ahead promo there was a real “jump Mount Doom” moment. It’ll be when they get to the desert hobbits (who Tolkien CLEARLY described as river dwellers). The symbiotie thing was too funny to be scary unfortunately.

Watched the first two episodes. It's really not bad. Not great but it's good enough.
I agree, they handled the Sauron switch better than expected. But this is the same actor, right? He just looks different without the scruff I guess?
The Stranger scenes are getting interesting. But them saying gand, gand, gand is either a huge hint or a red herring.
The dark wizard that looks like a younger Christopher Lee Saruman doesn't appear to be an Istari.

Thank God it didn’t end up as “Hey, who’s this new guy who absolutely doesn’t look like Halbrand in a wig”. I give them wiggle room on this since they may not have been able to use Annatar at the time. Hinds may be Khamul, one of the Nazgûl since he’s from Rhun. All the names of the wizards come from the different peoples so I hope they don’t try to “name” him. Gandalf has at least theee different names depending on who he’s talking to (Gandalf to hobbits and men, Mithrandir to the Elves). If anything it should Olorin.

Ooh I forgot this was out. I need to go back and re-watch the first season. I never read the source material so I gotta remind myself what happened.

Ooh I forgot this was out. I need to go back and re-watch the first season. I never read the source material so I gotta remind myself what happened. To save yourself some time, you only need to read the Numenor sections of Appendix A, the Second Age part of Tales of Years in Appendix B and Akallabeth in Silmarillion. About 40-50 pages. Then as you watch you can also go “…wait, that didn’t happen yet…”, “…wait, that wasn’t supposed to happen now…”, “…wait, that never happened…”

I’m interested to see how they get out of certain things they’ve gotten themselves into. They did ok with moving from Halbrand to Annatar. Not sure exactly how they’re fixing the Elven rings issues (they’re trying something, not sure if it’ll work), next up is bringing in Celeborn and Anarion. Celeborn may be showing up later this season, I’m guessing Anarion will be somewhere in Middle Earth setting up Arnor and Gondor. Will try to figure out why when/if it happens.
