“Shipwrecked” is ok, but it’s not about Howard’s Belit. In fact, none of the recent Belit stories have been about Howard’s Belit. The character has been recast as a generic she-pirate captain with a diverse crew. I understand why they is this. Howard’s Belit is no longer politically correct. Edit: I’d like to amend my earlier statement. I had only read a few pages into the story. I’m further into it now. The good guys are fighting the bad guys. The story reads like it was written using Chat gpt. Not recommended. Erasing the Black Corsairs, huh? And here I thought racebending diverse characters was bad. Maybe the optics of Belit leading a crew of prehistoric Africans wouldn't be so bad if modern depictions of the character didn't make her paler than a vampire. I always thought REH's reference to Belit's ivory paleness was more of a poetic allusion than a literal fact. His Belit springs from a complex mix of literary influences as well as contemporary ones (ie contemporary to REH when he wrote QotBC), chief among them probably being Ayesha from H R Haggard's She.

I wonder why these preview images disappear on these boards ... when they're still at the linked source? I've reposted it. Let's see how long that lasts.

I'm so behind on these, and they just keep coming! But hey, having too much Howard pastiche to read is never a bad thing

I liked Bêlit: shipwrecked. That said I had very low expectations after all the piss-poor pastiches we've had so far from Titan Books (with the notable exception of Mr Oden's Shadow of vengeance). I thought it was a decent/good S&S story even if the serpent/fish men didn't really feel like creatures from the Hyborian world. At least this time I did not regret my money.
