The kickstarter for Skelos, The Journal of Weird fiction and Dark Fantasy from Skelos press is up and running. Some impressive talent has been lined up and it looks to be the kind of anthology mag that REH fans have been waiting for <img src="//images.proboards.com/f/bbcode/video-preview.png" video="<iframe width="480" height="270" src=" /widget/video.html" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"> </iframe>" alt="Video Preview">

I just signed up for this one too. My first ever Kickstarter contribution, but I was impressed with the folks attached to this project; come on everybody, this is one mag that we should all get behind!

Definitely looking forward to this. Backed it as soon as the link started making the rounds.

This is great news!
There's been a gap out there for something like this since Weird Tales went awol.
A very promising start for the kickstarter so far, and hopefully we'll see a stable enough interest for Skelos to become a regular quaterly.
I suspect you're going to get swamped with submissions once the gates officially open, like the recent reboot of Weirdbook.

I would love to contribute some fiction in a mag like this one day...

A great write-up on Keith Taylor and a look at Tomas Giorello's illo for the story here: /posts/1576455 Keith and Tomas both hit this one outta the park.

Hey guys, just wanted to swing by thank you for the support! We're trying to make this the journal for all of us. The stuff we all like. We're going to try and build up slowly. The goal is to be a long-term, stable publication -- not a flash in the pan. This is something Finn, Grub, and I have been working on behind the scenes over a year and a half now. All the contributors to the first issue, our friends and colleagues, originally agreed to do it for free to help get this off the ground. But we decided we just couldn't ask that of them so we decided to try the Kickstarter route. And wow! The Kickstarter funded in less than four hours at an amount that will allow them to be paid twice the rate of Weirdbook. But we're not going to go crazy with this. We're going to stay very conservative for the first couple of years until we know we're on secure footing. I know that Grub, Finn, and I can count on you guys. We're doing this for you!

...This is something Finn, Grub, and I have been working on behind the scenes over a year and a half now... Hey Jeff, how many more 'never published REH tales' have you got hidden in your swag bag? Do Paradox know you are selling their 'rare' Howard works in your mag? [ how much did you have to pay them for that special licence? ] Have any of you '3 amigos' ever edited a mag of new short stories before? [ its hellish hard work reading all those new submissions, and filing everything ] ==== I will read the reviews when they come out.

Bux, I don't know about you but I'm pretty excited about reading an unpublished REH tale regardless of whoever controls the rights to the work. I'm also excited about the magazine precisely because these "3 amigos" are putting it together, they are tried and true REH fans with excellent insights into the man's work so it stands to reason they are choosing the kind of content that appeals to Howard fans. Based on the remarkable success of the kickstarter I would say I'm not alone in my high opinion of the editors.

Have any of you '3 amigos' ever edited a mag of new short stories before? [ its hellish hard work reading all those new submissions, and filing everything ] ==== I will read the reviews when they come out. Aw, why so skeptical-sounding, Bux? A new periodical that apparently fuses an original fiction magazine with a literary journal, that has its roots firmly in Weird Tales but also an interest in modern manifestations of the Weird, and that's being put together as an obvious labor of love by three guys known for their knowledge and enthusiasm. What's not to like?

Oh, Buxy seems to be skeptical of everything I do. First the RPG, now this. And that's perfectly fine. But I think Mark's, Grub's, and my previous work and reputations speak for themselves. We all have editorial experience on various projects. I was just nominated for a Bram Stroker Award this year for editing the Unique Legacy of Weird Tales. I have no doubt that we will make some mistakes but we will learn and grow from them. This is a labor of love. We miss Weird Tales and the print Black Gate and we want to try and fill that void. We already have some name authors giving us submissions -- Keith Taylor, Scott Oden, John C. Hocking, Ed Erdelac, Christina Faust, Adrian Cole, Angeline Hawkes, John Fultz, Howard Andrew Jones, etc. We're going to have art from Mark Schultz, Tomas Giorello, Tim Truman, Esteban Maroto, Dave Dorman, Tom Grindberg, John Lucas, and Richard Pace. These guys are all willing to contribute because they know us, they know work, and they know this for real. They want it to succeed. They are fans too and they want to support our fandom community. Oh, and I work for the REH Foundation, and I work on licensed REH products. Do you really think I would publish an REH story without Cabinet's permission? C'mon.

the 'never published REH tale' should have been FIRST announced on the REHFoundation website, as news. Then it should have been EMAILED to all REHF paid members. [ paying members should get to see any such single finds, first ] Then, about 3 or 4 months later... the tale should be POSTED in full at the REHFoundation website [ free for all the world of REH fans to enjoy ] >>>> THAT IS WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE with a single 'new' REH short tale [ or a poem ]. [ now, if the REHF had discovered several [ 3 or more? ] 'new' REH tales then ofcourse they might want to SELL them all in a small book [ or PDF file? ] ? fans would not mind that, and the profits would directly benefit the Foundations funds. ] But this one is just a single short tale. -- then later...if the REHF also wants to licence /allow a mag [ like skelos? ] to print the tale, again. then that is fine. But the free version should remain on the REHF site for all time. ==== your ultra-secret skelos plot and tactics have robbed the REHFoundation of any glory and fame for discovering the 'new' REH tale. [ why would the REHF allow you 3 to do that? ] skelos mag is also being very sneaky and bluntly devious by not disclosing ANY INFO about the REH tale. obviously the rare tale is a key part of your selling tactics - to try ensure the success of the kick-start. >>>> QUESTIONS that every Howard fan wants to know: How many years have the top leaders of the REHF been sitting on that newly found REH tale? in strict secrecy. How many pages is it? What genre is it? [ s&s fantasy, horror, weird western, or silly boxing antics ] When was it written? Which mags had REH submitted it to? What is the title? -- obviously you 'underhand plotters' will not want to tell us those simple answers until the kick-con is completed? [ i can't see the tale being anything good, or special. if it were good it would have been published many years ago? But...oops...hush my mouth... i dont want to spoil your oily-slick sales tactics...] ==== >> BTW, i am NOT criticising the skelos mag project idea. i hope the mag brings out many good new tales from many writers.
