Actually, I explained what the REH piece is in the first KS update. There's no secret. But I'll give you guys more details as you'll appreciate it more than the geneal audience. It's an early world-building essay like "The Hyborian Age," but written in late 1925-early 1926. It's actually three drafts and the final fourth version of it became Gonar's speech in "Men of the Shadows."
The typescript pages were thought to be random out-of-order fragment draft pages for MotS. One of them only exists as a faint negative image on an old xerox page on the back of another story. I was the first one to transcribe them and put them order and show that they are actually three complete short drafts, charting Howard's first rudimentary attempt at creating a prehistoric world, with the Picts, Atlanteans, Lemurians and the cataclysm. These drafts are the birth of a fictional world that would later evolve into the Thurian Age and Hyborian Age.
I've also written an article to go with it explaining the draft in context and showing some of the things I was able to learn from it. Ever wonder why Howard made the Pictish Isles the tops of the Rockies? Finally answered.
So yeah, it's significant and I this has been a primary research focus of mine for the last two years. If I hadn't have unearthed it and pieced it together, we still wouldn't know about it. So I think I have earned the right to publish it.
And Bux, I have worked my ass off for years promoting REH, doing research, writing articles, going to conventions and conferences, volunteering with the Foundation, helping organize Howard Days. I have spent thousands of dollars and hours supporting Robert E. Howard and REH fandom. I am sick of your insulting, condescending bullshit. You have no idea what you are talking about.
If you think this magazine is going to make any money you are truly clueless. The whole point of putting this in a weird fiction journal instead of the REHF newsletter or website is to introduce REH to NEW people. You know, the thousands of Mythos fans that are only vaguely aware of REH as one of the guys HPL wrote to. This is part of the outreach plan.
Seriously, when you make more of contribution to the cause than posting sword and titty pics on a niche forum, then you can presume to lecture me on how to promote REH. Until then, kindly fuck off.

[ now go read some new submissions... and calm down. ]

Hmmm...to me, this magazine seems like a win/win situation. I don't really see any downside...am I missing something?

Have any of you '3 amigos' ever edited a mag of new short stories before? [ its hellish hard work reading all those new submissions, and filing everything ] ==== I will read the reviews when they come out. Aw, why so skeptical-sounding, Bux? A new periodical that apparently fuses an original fiction magazine with a literary journal, that has its roots firmly in Weird Tales but also an interest in modern manifestations of the Weird, and that's being put together as an obvious labor of love by three guys known for their knowledge and enthusiasm. What's not to like? Good to see you on the forum, Mr. Hocking! I'm also glad to hear you've submitted fiction to Skelos. It's a perfect venue for your short works.

And it's a great novelette length fantasy yarn. It will be one of the headliners of issue 3. It's an honor to be able to publish John's work. Some of the other names we've gotten for the nextra issues -- Scott Oden, Jessica Amanda Salmonson, Adrian Cole, Howard Andrew Jones, Jess Nevins, Ed Erdelac, W H. Pugmire, Angeline Hawkes, Gabrielle Faust, John Fultz, and more. It's a pretty awesome lineup and I'm excited to be a part of it.

Less than 24 hours left in the Kickstarter. Remember, cool Zarono art is part of the bargain.

Well that was a very succesful run!
You might get some latecomers, like Modiphius Conan RPG did.
Looks like you're filling up issue three already without even an open call. I had a feeling this was going to be popular.
I'm thinking of sending something in too. Maybe have a shot at issue four if it's accepted?

I had a feeling this was going to be popular. I'm thinking of sending something in too. Maybe have a shot at issue four if it's accepted? Yeah, there was quite a rush. Word has it that Robert M. Price submitted a Thongor story. IMO, his pastiches have always been as good or better than Lin's own originals. RMP was Lin's best friend in the last years and he's been literary executor since. I've also heard that Adrian Cole is doing an Elak of Atlantis pastiche. Always good to see new work from Mr. Cole. Skelos appears to have experienced a surfeit of riches in regard to S&S. While they're glad to get those tales, they're also wanting more horror, occult detective and even sword & planet stories. As Shanks has said, "Any genre that got published in Weird Tales." I think they're also looking for a little bit of poetry.

Sounds like this mag is really gonna take off. Looking forward to the mix of genres and authors/artists. Duece states a surplus of S&S tales submitted for these first few issues; this bodes well for the future of the genre. Here's hoping for a S&S specific magazine and more "old school" S&S novels and anthology collections in the near future.

Just got my copy of the first issue today. Very nice work. Thought it would be a magazine, but it is in fact a high quality softcover book, but oversized; very cool. Just cracking it open now..,
