I just hope that the fighting is like other games for PS3, PS4, and XBOX ONE and not like the PC Age of Conan.

Open world, as in MMO? I still await for that decent MMO... :/ But then again, I am a PC player, so wouldn't be sharing it with you console-people. Next thing to get invented: PC-consoles mutual online gameplay net!

PC players would destroy console players in an online game due to faster machines, etc. This is why games like CS:GO, COD, and BF are not cross-platform.

I was reading about this on the IGN website, and being an old fogey(;-)), I became rather concerned about this part of the description of the game -
"Early Access players should be able to sacrifice other players this summer to gods like Set, although the actual details remain in flux. Bylos tells me they've thought of everything from letting players capture other players to allowing them to cut out hearts on the battlefield and offer the hearts at an altar later. Whatever they choose, he says, they want players to have a good experience."
It is at the least ironic to finish the description that players will be able to sacrifice other players to gods like Set, with " . . . they want players to have a good experience."
I'm no expert on REH or the Hyborian Age, but imho the characters in his stories who sacrifice people to the gods and might be prepared to tear their living hearts out of their chests are not the "good guy," and therefore in my perhaps simplistic view, I don't think they should be encouraging people to engage - and even enjoy - such activity. I have some qualms about the desirability of designing a game which allows one to exercise a fantasy of being a perverted killer. I believe that Howard would have been aghast at such a notion. Conan may have been a brute, but Howard's whole thesis was that he was more heroic than the priests and such who were products of the decadent civilizations and who would have engaged in such activity.

I am not sure how the console version will work. On the PC version, you can host your own dedicated server.

When this comes out on PS4 and Xbox one, will it be a game that can be played alone, or do you have to be connected online? (Playing Skyrim on Xbox 360 is essentially the extent of my gaming knowledge). One of the three gaming modes is PvE (player vs environment) which can be played solo, basically the player against the environment, native beasts and NPC computer controlled oponents, but you still have to log onto a server online to play that I believe. |
