Thanks for the info Hun. One potential area for development might be a Total War style Hyborian Age strategy game. EA would likely be the best company to approach with this. They're currently working on a remake of their Dark Age England game, but they recently implemented Warhammer Total War based on GW's Old World from Warhammer. Deuce and Taranaich were working on a Hyborian Age Total War mod some years ago, but I feel they got swamped by the sheer scale of the work required for such an undertaking. With EA's experience from Warhammer TW, they should still have the team in place to be able to implement some combat magic for any more fantastical HA troop types. (Thinking along the lines of the magical/alchemical fire Nahtok used in Black Colossus, and Xaltotun in HotD etc). If Funcom could manage to develop good enough battle AI they could maybe implement it themselves? Pretty sure they could handle the graphics side of things.

I got some details wrong in my above post. It's not EA but CA (Creative Assembly) who develop the Total War franchise, and they are published by Sega. www.totalwar.com/It would be interesting to see them develop a Total War game set in REH's Hyborian Age. They licensed Warhammer from Games Workshop. Would they also be willing to license Conan from Heroic Signatures? Or Funcom could potentially lease the game engine from CA (+source code?) and develop it themselves? It would perhaps be too much development work for Funcom to develop their own proprietary engine and AI for both strategy and battle. Another strategy game option is a version of Paradox Interactive's (the other Paradox) Crusader Kings game set in the Hyborian Age. www.paradoxplaza.comwww.paradoxplaza.com/crusader-kings-ii/CKCK02GSK-MASTER.htmlJust throwing a couple of ideas out there...

When this comes out on PS4 and Xbox one, will it be a game that can be played alone, or do you have to be connected online? (Playing Skyrim on Xbox 360 is essentially the extent of my gaming knowledge). According to this update on their developer blog: "players can pick up and play without the need for an Internet connection." So you should be able to play solo in your own, locally hosted PvE environment as far as I understand, without having to be online or deal with other players if you don't want to. I wouldn't expect something like Skyrim though, there won't be traditional quests and such, other than surviving and exploring in the wilderness. There's a loose overall story-arc, around the reason why you're character was crucified and left in the exile but as far as I understand clues to this will be found in lore in the environment, rather than interaction with NPCs. I've pre-ordered the collector's edition since the extras made it seem worth it (especially the Modiphius rpg) and the game itself sounds fun. I've never played a survival game before but Ark etc sound interesting. I wish they'd make an actual Conan game again though rather than these MMO-type games!

Is/was the collector's edition available, in any format (PC/Console), in the United States? Anyone know?

Yes, it arrived today. Had the chance to play for about an hour and didn't make much progress! It's the first survival game I've played so it takes some getting used to. There's a fair bit of grinding compared to normal RPGs, in that there's no NPCs to buy food or weapons from, at least in the area I've explored. You have to collect materials and make it yourself, while watching out for hostile NPCs, animals, environmental hazards like sandstorms etc. You start off pretty weak and vulnerable. It seems good so far. I like the feel of it, but I'm really just scratching the surface right now. Oh and I've been exclusively playing offline solo so far. My understanding is that they're having issues with servers due to high demand so people are struggling to play online. My main interest was solo anyway, so not an issue for me so far.

Having spent a while on the game, I’m really enjoying it and it’s entirely viable as a single-player experience. Once you’ve levelled up your character it almost becomes a Hyborean age homesteading sim. I’ve been enjoying just building up a base, developing armour and weapons etc, there's still loads of the map to explore with dungeons and boss creatures, and a city of non-hostile NPCs, and the entire Nordheim-style area to the north and jungle to the east. Gameplay wise it’s probably not to everyone’s taste but I’m finding it pretty addictive.
There’s a lot of hints to the wider Conan/Howard mythos, with references to things like Giant Kings and serpentmen. All the major Hyperborea age races are represented with culture-specific weapons and armour. A favourite moment of mine so far was exploring a cave full of Worms of the Earth style creatures (called imps in game) and finding a huge statue of Hanuman the ape-god being worshiped by ghosts. Conan himself features in the opening cinematic and I believe will crop up again at some point.
I thought I’d share some comments from a Reddit forum on the game about Howard and the original Conan tales:
“The game has kind of made me a new fan [of Howard]. I was reading about him the other day and didn't know about his suicide. I want to read some of the original Conan stories and I want to get the book about Howard's life.”
“Same here. I’m going to pick up The Coming of Conan the Cimmarian soon because the game really made me interested in the original lore. That book is the first of 3 reprints of the original Howard stories.”
Nice to see it generating interest in Howard and the original stories.

This sounds pretty cool. I might have to get a new PC to run it on though.
Might tide us over until Delos opens up Conan World.

Thanks so much for the review!, my interest in the game is more from a Conan fan standpoint than an avid gamer, so your opinion is very helpful.
