I will go back out there and double check to see if I can tell whether its the same one. Vikings are pretty popular right now with the success of the tv show so other product is bound to get rolled out there. Oh yeah, for sure. With any trend, all sorts of material will be dumped on the market in an effort to make a buck. Up to us consumers to sort through the chaff to find the gems!

My mistake, the movie I saw is called Viking War...looked pretty low budget. Viking Legacy was in Redbox...it looked like it might be interesting

Just watched this film tonight (don't ask me how I got a copy-friend of a friend who knows a guy...). It was pretty damn good. All the dialogue was Russian without subtitles, so much of the plot and finer nuances were lost to me, but I enjoyed it just the same. Great costumes, full size sets built on location, convincing weapons and plenty of "real" blood splashed liberally in all directions. Very little CGI used ( or at least not obvious) except for the winter Auroch hunt in the opening. Great action scenes with a couple of sieges against large log fortresses and some blood and thunder horseback skirmishes. People who love horses may want to look away from some scenes. Kinda petered out in the end, with so much action in the first 75% of the movie, but still worth watching for the great cinematography and gorgeous sets. I will be buying the bluray when it is released. Oh yeah, it had Berserkers...

Hopefully someone fansubs it since the RAW is out there. Very cool. Bad subtitles can ruin a good film. ...... If they're bad, sure. I watch a lot of Japanese fansubs and you can tell pretty fast if it's quality or a speed translation/low quality translation. Unfortunately, back in the day many legitimate Hong Kong action movie releases were the latter.

I watch it. Its a damn good movie. Great story, great sets, its in a spirith of CtB 1982 and 13 warrior, with great plot and, I belive, historicly acurate and true. In the end, Russia was found by Viking tribe of Russ. They mix with the Slavic tribals of the north and start to build their first kingdoms, or Arhonats to be precise. By the way, movie isnt only in Rusian, it has lot of nordic language, tatarian/mongolian and Bizantinian also. Nothing childish in it, everything is raw and blody, made for mature audience. One of the best I watch in last few years and I warmly recomend it.

Here's a video from Kazakh TV about Zhaidarbek Kunguzhinov, he portrays Pechenegov in this movie. He is also the coordinator of the Kazakh stunt team Nomad Stunts. Nomad Stunts have also worked on Mongol, Nomad, Marco Polo, 47 Ronin, Conan The Barbarian 2011, and another upcoming Russian movie, this one is a historical fantasy called the Legend of Kolovrat.

Interesting stuff. As far as that new movie goes, I'll presume that it will have some conection with Svarog, greatest god of Slavic Patheon, since it (Kolovrat) is his symbol. I wonder what they have in mind. Thanks for sharing, mate 😊

According to the Russian epic ' The Tale of the Destruction of Ryazan' he fought against the Mongol Horde after they captured the city of Ryazan in 1237. The movie is also known as Furious. Here's the most recent trailer. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evpaty_Kolovrat

Hello, hun 😊 perhaps you are right. I just speculate since there is a symbol wich is called Kolovrat. I have one, since there is manny in Serbia that has turned to ancestor religion (as well in Greece, Scandinavia and Russia - even exist multynational order between them called Wolf Pack) And no, Im not a pagan. I got that as a gift. Russia have great legends as well as great history. They have manny stuff that can be turned into great s&s novies, or just dramatical historical ones.

[/quote] Thanks for the reply Blackheart. Is this the Kolovrat symbol? Yeah, from what I can tell (so far, I'm no expert, I am still learning) there is a wealth of rich Slavic mythology that can be made into some very interesting movies, video games or fantasy novels. I have always found the relationship between the early Slavic tribes and the Altaic nomads fascinating. Concerning Paganism, or the religions of old, I have always been intrigued by the ancient belief systems of the Altaic nomads, recently Tengriism/Shamanism has made a comeback among the Turko-Mongol peoples. The wolf is also a very important ancestral symbol among the Turko-Mongol peoples.

Yes, friend. That's a Kolovrat 😊 symbol of Svarog, greatest among the gods, creator of universe. As far as the belifes goes, some form of shamanism was a part of Slavic culture. Ha. Great white wolf (symbol of the underground) is a totem animal of Serbians, bear is a totem of Rusians. Minor diference in beliefs between this two people lies in mixed origin - Rusians are of slavic-nordic origin, ans Serbs are of celto-slavic. And as for turko-mongol belifes of old, all indo-europian peoples (slavs, germans, celts, greeks, baltic peoples...) speak with some of the language wich came from one indoeuropean language from the begining of bronze age. Religions and belifes are similar to all of them in manny form, and asian tribes took lot of it in those times when great migrations starts from litle Asia acros Europe and north Asia, even to India.
