I reread his Kane colection tales - The Book of Kane - just month ago. And, man, its a good read. KEW was truly a master of gotic. Always tought that his work deserve a movie incarnation, starting with Kane, but I doubt its ever gonna happend. Hollywood is to soft for something like that.

As I write this, I can see on my bookshelf by my side all of my Wagner books. As good as his Conan and Bran Mak Morn pastiche books are, it's Kane and his horror shorts that impress me the most. Kane is a truly awesome creation, and deserves wider recognition. It's unfortunate that most recent reprints have been expensive limited edition hardcovers; bring on the mass-market paperbacks for the rest of us. New readers are never gonna buy those limited editions...

I don't know if it's still available but a while back all of the Kane books were on kindle at very affordable prices. I'm a big fan of Kane and also of KEW's horror work, 220 Swift, Sticks, and Where the Summer Ends ranking high in my all time favorite horror stories.

'Sticks' is still one of the best horror stories I have ever read!

All 5 Kane books are available on Kindle as a bundle for under $18.00 US. Road of Kings is available too for $7.99 US.

A panel from 1983 featuring KEW, Charles L. Grant, David Drake and others. This, from the comments:
"One important note on this video: I was intrigued by the repeated mentions of Angela Taylor Burgess (cited by Strieber and King as one of the great horror authors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries). I contacted Strieber about this, as I could find no information about her at all (after searching through every nook and cranny of the Internet). Strieber admitted that this was an elaborate hoax perpetrated by the panel. In an email communication with me, he states: 'As I recall this was a prank played by the panel. I was elected to lead it off. The author doesn't exist.' Just wanted to make this clear, so no one else goes on a similar wild goose chase."

An important writer, editor and even publisher. What might have been had he lived longer and stopped drinking...
