As a follow up to my previous post; Marvel should hire Benito Gallego to work on Conan and we'll just pretend it's John Buscema. benitogallego.blogspot.com.es

I wouldn't mind seeing Benito Gallego's Conan in the new series. Cool rendition of Conan & Valeria. This one's got a Barry Windsor-Smith feel to the illustration. Nice stuff. Not sure how good Gallego's storytelling is over 40-50 pages? but, I can't resist the Buscema inspired look.

That's a good question. The traditional monthly issue format doesn't really interest me much any more, but I have to think they're going to do something along the lines of a regular monthly comic. I think at this point they should strike out on their own. If they are going to do any adaptation, they should start with the ones DH has not done recently (Red & Black, Pool and Tombalku). I think you're right, I suspect Marvel will probably do something along the lines of a regular monthly comic. It'd be great if they explored the OGN route, with different creative teams on each book - unfortunately, I regret to say, it's highly unlikely. If Marvel wanna publish a monthly Conan book they should cover the adaptations you've mentioned above, they have to completely avoid the recent Dark Horse adaptations. Or skip the Shadows in Zamboula, the Tombalku fragment, The Vale of Lost Women and The Pool of the Black One and start the series with the Cimmerian during the Beyond the Black River years: You gotta start with a classic! I gotta feeling this is gonna be a tough one for Marvel.

Hey nice catch, Hun. Not a whole lot of info there, but what there is is choice.
The three Conan mags will each take place at a different period of the Cimmerian's life. Which handily answers the question of how they're going to handle chronology-- I was concerned we'd be starting at the very beginning again.
So, dog-brothers, which periods of the barbarian's life do you suppose they'll choose? I think we'll see... Conan the young thief,
Conan the Pirate (perhaps with Belit) and Conan the King.
What do you think?

I like the young thief era...but I will take anything. Belit should have her own mag IMO...

Count me in for all three if they're $2.99. But don't disappoint us, Marvel. Keep ALL political activist writers away from this title. Just give us quality pulp sword and sorcery in the Howardian tradition and keep Left, Right, and all political agendas away from this line.

I think we'll get a Conan the Pirate book. And an Old Man Conan book, following the adventures of the Cimmerian after his abdication of the Aquilonian throne. I gotta feeling with the third title Marvel will go for a Savage Sword of Conan style magazine

Fred Van Lente managed to put in some liberal ideas without being preachy and annoying (Diana and Abit the interracial couple are something that Howard would never have done yet it's organically blended into the story). The key is keeping the soul of conan (blood and energy, dark atmosphere) while facing the somewhat......ridiculous elements.

With series being so short these days, they may end up revolving: we'll start with a king, thief and private series. After a year, the thief series ends and a later mercenary series starts. The pirate ends and a early mercenary starts. Then the king ends and we go back to thief era or kodak era

A similar situation has been happening with the Punisher comics over the last few years, so I could see Conan being handled in that manner.
