Count me in for all three if they're $2.99. But don't disappoint us, Marvel. Keep ALL political activist writers away from this title. Just give us quality pulp sword and sorcery in the Howardian tradition and keep Left, Right, and all political agendas away from this line. Fred Van Lente managed to put in some liberal ideas without being preachy and annoying (Diana and Abit the interracial couple are something that Howard would never have done yet it's organically blended into the story). The key is keeping the soul of conan (blood and energy, dark atmosphere) while facing the somewhat......ridiculous elements. If that”s the extent of it, no one will notice, which is how it should be. Too many in today’s crowd have shown an unfortunate tendency to be unable to control themselves. I wouldn’t mind having Bunn come back to continue his book in a sense. I’m sure there are people out there who’d love to put out a book like Roy & BWS or Big John or Tim & Tomas, bit with their own touches. Trick is finding them.

As Doug mentioned Roy perhaps we'll get to see his and Tom Grindberg's aborted story they were planning for DH. Terry Yeah, the podcast sounds promising.
While I'd be pleased to see Roy write one of the new Conan mags, I think it would be in the best interests of the whole project if he was enlisted as an editor.
There's nobody better suited to cluing in new writers to the shape, style and history of Conan and his saga. With Roy helping oversee the line we'd have a pretty good guarantee that the stories would avoid most of the un-Howardian pitfalls that Marvel fell into when he left the old comic back in the day.

That's an excellent idea, Emerald. Hopefully Mark Basso and Ralph Macchio can persuade Roy Thomas to join the editorial team.

I think Roy's pretty well retired apart from his Alter Ego mag , and I believe a book on Stan he's been writing. So really can't see that happening though it would give the mags some focus.

Terry I'd imagine an advisory role would be perfect for Roy, just to make sure Marvel keep on track and keep the books true to REH's vision of Conan.

Three books across different periods sounds great and shows a level of commitment to the property. I wonder if these are meant to be ongoings or mini-series? How many different Conan books did Marvel have at it's peak?

How many different Conan books did Marvel have at it's peak? Three: Conan the Barbarian, Savage Sword of Conan and King Conan...which oddly enough cover three different periods in his life. Plus there were several Treasury Editions along the way (Conan got 4 out of the 27 or 28 they did).

I hope they bring back Savage Sword, in the same format as before. I do not want any crossovers with other Marvel characters, unless it's in a What If? type situation, or if they re-establish the Hyborian age ties to the Serpent Crown, Shuma-Gorath, Bloodstone, ect... I would love to see SSOC come back, especially something in the vein of the 70's and early 80's stuff.

Roy Thomas? I thought The Road of Kings was rather pedestrian and didn't think much of the art, compared with the prior Iron Shadows in the Moon arc, as it felt like something out of the Marvel years. Despite Van Lente's efforts to right Wood's take, I lost interest in the series and remember barley anything, compared with the early Dark Horse issues.

Hey, if you're on Facebook drop by the Perilous Worlds page. The folks behind Perilous Worlds are in New York City this week talking to Marvel and have asked what people think about the new Conan comics and novellas. So please stop by their page and throw some informed opinions at them. I know you have them and they need to hear them. www.facebook.com/perilousworlds/Thanks, JCH
