These volumes are just getting better. I have just recently finished reading The Frost-Giant's Daughter, La Fille du Géant du Gel, and was very impressed with Robin Recht's work. I cannot read French to save my life, I may pick up the odd phrase or sentence, but generally if you are familiar with these stories, the slight variations are not hard to comprehend.
I loved the whole tone of this, from the pleasure Atali received from the main battle, and her own battle with Conan, to her realisation that Conan was not her stooge. She confounded him, and he frustrated her. The artwork and expressions in this volume conveyed so much to me, that my very limit language skills could not. I could see Conan in his expressions ( I realise that sounds weird, but....)
If you are worried that these volumes are not worth getting because you are like me, being French language challenged, despair no more and order these volumes. I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
Roll on March 27th for the Scarlet Citadel.

It appears Atali's brothers are polar bears in that adaption?
What's up with that?

For now, I'll have to just look at the beautiful artwork until the Marvel translations of these volumes.

This volume is easily the best volume so far, the art is fantastic. I especially love the dream-like colors of the sky and mountains on the 2 page spreads. Robin Recht really expanded on the original yarn and introduced new elements to the story and developed the interaction between Conan and Atali further than previous adaptations. I can't find the words to describe the art but it's a beautiful book. Marvel need to sort out some kinda deal with Glénat and get English translations of these volumes on the shelves as soon as possible.

I guess it would have to be Marvel, though I was hoping Cinebook might be able to work something out with Marvel as they would produce a nice Hardcover translation perhaps.
I went ahead and ordered the special edition of this book as well, although it will be in B & W, I think it will be very impressive as well.

Here's an Amazon review of Robin Recht's The Frost-Giant's Daughter adaptation by Laurent Mari (Thanks to google translate) Whew, what a shock! I just finished reading! Robin Recht is a great, a very great artist that I knew too little. I feasted, this adaptation is simply haunting, even more than the goddess Atali herself! A Conan that fits perfectly with the idea that I always made of him (but I was greatly influenced by Buscema) and here, so I am delighted by his representation (question of personal taste). A Conan driven by a violent desire towards Atali, a desire that he tries to control at first (he asks him not to be there when he wakes) and then totally submerged him, to give him an almost superhuman, bestial resistance (page 54 is eloquent). As I said, this adaptation is captivating, poetic and wild at the same time, it takes us into a cold and cold universe. We are on the border of myth, legend and reality. this legend will remain attached to Conan's fingers as a testimony, a door between a wild world and that of the Gods. It's not about me, but it seems to me once to have heard or read that when reality joins the legend, it is appropriate to write the legend! This is what Howard and Robin Recht has reproduced through his drawings, his text this mythical pursuit, that of a man succumbing to his impulses in the midst of a beautiful, wild but tangible nature that swings towards the world just as ruthless of belief! A great time, I loved the volume 3, this one while being different exceeds it. A truly adult comic to enjoy without moderation!

Yes, Frost Giant's looks marvelous. This is how I feel Conan should always be. For me, when I was a child, reading Roy Thomas SSoC, it was all about identity. Conan was different from the tradicional super hero comic. And that is what I felt was most interesting. Marvel is transforming Conan in an ordinary character comic. Not appealing at all. It should never be like this. Congrats to Glenát for releasing such quality book, just like the cimmerian deserves.

A page from the upcoming Scarlet Citadel adaptation: It is 100x better than what Marvel has been doing. Also it looks better than Dark Horse's version too. Villarrubia colors were always hit and miss. These are much better. I hate those blue tones he chose to color the same scene represented in this preview. The guy had such bad ideas for coloring, even though he could also use beautiful tones just as much. Inconsistency marred his work in my opinion.

Did you manage to obtain a copy of the Black & White edition? Yes i did Hun and I am very pleased with it.
The B & W does diminish the impact of some scenes, for instance the large battle scene at the start and the lightning storm at the end. Without the splashes of red in the battle scenes, and the icy blue hues in the landscape shots, the effect is not as dramatic.
In other ways though, the B & W really highlights the facial expressions and gestures, particularly as I cannot read in French, and though we are familiar with the original tale, this allows us to be able to better follow the subtleties of the changes included within this adaption.
The Sketches and drawings at the back of the book are very nice, particularly as they are not in the colour edition. Just as the B & W edition does not have the Homages from the colour edition.
I am very impressed with both the colour and B & W volumes and I intend to continue to get both editions as I have not been disappointed yet.
