I like the issue, but why are there gun-ports in the pirate ship? ? Sadly because it's doubtful some of the writers/artists/editors no little about Howard's work but then if they've put him in Savage Avengers they probably don't even care if they're making $$$$$$$$$$$$

This may be a new low, perhaps surpassing, storywise, Brian Wood's appalling Queen of the Black Coast, and impossibly awful art by Lolos. The story was incoherent, childish, and could have been drawn by a kindergartener using crayons. The story brought to mind the scene where Wood's had Conan vomit from the emotional trauma of killing a mother doe. This made me feel the same way. Absolutely insulting to the legacy of Conan and the other characters created by REH. It seems it was a test to see if any garbage will be bought. This should have been printed on toilet paper to make flushing it away easier.

What an absolute abomination against everything Conan represents.
I piss in the face of this creator team.

Not just the team but the editor and the entire staff and process that selected the team and approved this garbage. This was probably the worst I've ever seen since 1970 when Marvel started publishing Conan. And, as I said, that includes Wood and Lolos and that horrifically illustrated "Conan" series in the late 90's. At least, if memory serves me, the stories were not this awful.

They have the rights for the brand Conan and want to make money out of it. That is all. Can't talk about the issue concerning Belit because I have not read it. I feel the probability of it being of very low standard is sky high, so I will not throw my money away on such a book.

Does that mean Marvel feels they cannot make money with quality? I have just been re-reading Roy's original QotBC run. The art by Buscema and Chan (with some assists from Chaykin and Mayerik) was spectacular, and RT's attention to details from REH was amazing. In the Beast King of Abombi, he expanded on threads and hints dropped in Beyond the Black River and Scarlet Citadel, creating a tight, expanded, and enriched Hyborean tapestry while respecting REH's vision. This was accomplished while making Conan a top-seller alongside Spiderman. Quality can sell.
Last;y, why is Marvel so proud of the history of the Marvel Universe that they are currently releasing a series by the same name, and yet they are trashing Conan's legacy even while incorporating him, through Savage Avengers into that history?
A schizophrenic, incoherent mess.

A schizophrenic, incoherent mess. I have no idea why Marvel is messing up with the Conan legacy. I could say that making money with quality demands hard work, so they would rather make it the easy way. They may feel Conan is not a top character because he does not have the same appeal of Spiderman or Thor or whoever, so it is not worth their money investing too much on a Conan book. But I may be all wrong, so who knows... All I can say is that I am yet to see a really good Conan book by Marvel this year. And I don't expect it to change anytime soon.

I may also add that the gun ports in the pirate ships adds to my theory that these Marvel writers have no clue about who Robert Howard is and what the Hyborean Age is supposed to look like. They are very convinced that Conan is just a brute that happens to be a good fighter with a sword in his hands.

He may not be a top-seller now but history shows, with quality, he can be. Roy started with a virtually unknown character, with an unknown genre and an unknown artist. Look what he made of it. And does it really cost more for quality writing? Or quality editing, that would eliminate gunports, or even actual guns in a pirate's waistband (SSOC #1) or compasses or spyglasses. all of which did not exist in the Hyborian age

These are such basic things... Soon we will be seeing airplanes in a Conan comic. Make no mistake- it's a calculated disregard in favor of pandering to what ever they think will sell in the short-term to the demographic they are targeting. These creative decisions are driven more by data analysts than the whim of this particular team. It can be the only answer.

This series was garbage but give Marvel credit for course-correcting recently. Savage Sword #7 and Conan #8 are a big step in the right direction.
That being said no one involved in this book should be on another REH or Conan title again. Save for Stackpoole the prose writer.
I'm crossing my fingers my girl Valeria is treated better.
