Geez, Taurus, you realize that 90% of your posts could be distilled down to 'Marvel Sucks!' ?
I get it. The only thing they're doing that's acceptable is re-issuing Savage Sword.
But here we see the interpreter of REH who was primarily responsible for SSOC's greatness being given a chance to write us a brand new tale and even that is greeted with bitterness.
On one hand I get where you're coming from, but on the other I wonder how you can maintain such a consistent level of embittered disappointment. It's comics. Wait a while and they'll change. Will we see Thomas and Smith again? No. That's impossible. But we pushed our way through Wood's run, didn't we? Things change. Marvel's had Conan for less than a year. Enjoy those old SSOCs and let it roll on by.
If something is bad, I say it is bad; if something is good, I say it too. I have expressed my contentment and discontentment whenever something pleases me or not. But If my discontentment is bothering you, I think it may be bothering others, so I will stop it right here and say only good things when I find good things. Aw hell Taurus, I wasn't trying to come down on you for your critical opinions, which many seem to agree with. And I wasn't trying to pry a stream of nothing-but-positive comments out of you either. Truly sorry if it came off that way. I was just bummed to see you sounding so consistently disappointed by what I see as an ever-changing landscape in comics. I'm thinking that if I felt as invested in the Conan comic on a month-to-month basis as you seem to be, that I would have perished of cardiac arrest back during Wood's run or earlier still, back when the Conan mag used to look like this... www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=80721(check out the cover of issue three...) If we got through that, we can get through anything.

Gonna knock this off my pull list. This next arc will probably suck. I'll keep an eye out for any promising one shots tho! Don't forget the Great Roy Thomas will be writing SSOC #10. Oh I haven't forgotten that one! That'll be a must buy for me. Even if it turns out average-at least Conan in Roy's hands is always faithful. On second thought, I may keep this on my pull list, the preview looks alright, but Shadow Of Vengeance is to good to put down.

As bad as that Conan series was (particularly artwise)it never, to my recollection, contradicted what had gone before, storywise. With the current SSOC and Conan, I don't know what is considered "canon" anymore. The writers seem to pick and choose as suits their storyline. Nothing that's come before has any meaning and the editors don't care, Each issue therefore becomes a stand alone of a generic barbarian with no defineable past.

Most of the comics out these days do have a lack of quality background work. It's so important imo. Good background work gives each panel character. Also, it will turn the surroundings (city, village, forest) into it's own character. I totally agree Attilaman66, a good background really helps to immerse yourself into the story. I want to be in the streets, the forest etc, as I read each story.
I guess it would take a lot longer to do, but it really makes a difference.

A well drawn background beckons the imagination, wondering what else might be going on behind an interesting tree or dark alley.

I also know I can get pretty negative about something I don't like, more than I should be. I am not pissed or anything and I am opened for criticism. I will keep posting (positive and negative feedback) but will try to be more balanced about what I say. Cheers.

Thanks guy's. I think that's why I was so drawn to the 70's comics from the dollar boxes when I was a kid. Loved Romita, Buscema, and the like. awesome backgrounds that really added to the story. I'm currently working on my own independent comic and Wow is it hard to give good background work! Mad respect to pro's! Also loved McFarlane and Lee's stuff from the 90's and Lee's stuff now.

Picked up a copy at my local comic shop up West today.
Jim Zub's storytelling is a vast improvement on the Gerry Duggan arc.
The art is not bad either.
This is a perfect start to the story arc.
The Conan books seem to have improved now that things have calmed down a bit.
This story also ties in to the upcoming Conan card game SERPENT'S BLUFF! by Perilous Worlds.

This is a significant improvement over the first arc. I do not want to expell too much optimism for the next two issues, but this is a solid one. Eight out of ten from me.

Yes finally this comic is living up to it's legacy, both the previous issue and this one feel like bonafide Savage Sword tales.
