Yeah, those seem to be among the toughest ones. Rogue is notoriously hard to get and 205 over the years has been hard to find for some reason. I know the later issues of SSoC are tough to find, as print runs were low because of falling sales. Luckily I bought the final year and a half off the stands so never had to hunt them down. But anything after 200 is tough to find in some cases. A lot of shops I go to have tons of copies of the first 50 or so issues but nothing over 175 or so. But patience is the key. I only got serious on SSoC after completing CtB first. I haven't tracked down Conan Saga yet either, but not sure I am going to as I have the content in other formats for the most part, and there are other things I'd rather focus the time and money on than Saga. If I find issues on the cheap though, I snag them, and I have a bunch, just nowhere near a full run. -M

And as I typed this, I just got a message from a long time internet comic friend, who has copies of 205 and 207 he's going to send me to finish off the run. So soon it will be done!

Congratulations on completing your SSOC collection.
I only have the first 60 issues.
In London, it's easier to find the early SSOC comics and the second Roy Thomas run. But with the second Roy Thomas run the last 10/15 issues are rarely seen in the back issue boxes.

Crom! Count the Dead!Gary Kwapisz and Ernie Chan (SSOC #139) A great interview with Chuck Dixon with loads of info concerning his run on SSOC and more: signalofdoom.com/chuck-dixon-interview-levon-cade-conan-sly-black-coffee-punisher/Description: Signal of Doom is HONORED to have the great CHUCK DIXON on the show for a BIG DISCUSSION with Dave! Chuck is a great sport as he and Dave cover MANY aspects of Chuck’s storied career, from Conan the Barbarian to CrossGen and BEYOND, with Batman and Punisher talk in there as well! We also go into quite some detail on Sly Stallone’s production company picking up Chuck’s Levon Cade series!

What do folks here reckon of the adaptation Marvel's old SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN magazine did of R.E. Howard's story People of the Dark? It was originally a non-Conan yarn set in Iron Age Britain (I think), but Roy Thomas adapted it so it was set in Cimmeria, at the time of the sack of Venarium. The adaptation is interesting in that it shows that the Children of the Night, from the Bran Mak Morn tales, already existed in the Hyborian era.

People of the Dark was one of my first Conan stories since my first Conan was MTE #19, so I got it in color. I thought it was a real eye opener because it revealed Conan's secret identity as Jim O'Brien! (Later I realized this wasn't exactly the case). Roy's "Conan-izations" generally worked well because he had an understanding of both the character and what made a story work. I would even argue he improved it by changing the ending to a more Howard-esque one than what Howard actually wrote. Plus it also helped that PotD basically set the template for the character that would become Conan the Cimmerian (By This Axe I Rule + Cimmeria poem + People of the Dark + a few other things = Phoenix on the Sword), so changing the Celtic Conan the Reaver to Conan the Cimmerian wasn't much a stretch (to paraphrase LSDC).

I found online a while ago about how back in the day Savage Sword of Conan printed, as backup features, excerpts from REH's "The Hyborian Age" essay. Does anyone know if those ever got collected anywhere, so you could essentially just have a comic version of that? Did it show up somewhere in the Dark Horse collections? Here's a sample: Attachments:

A few reprints are listed at comics.org for this particular chapter: www.comics.org/issue/30533/#193061It didn't show up in the DH reprints, but it appears it's being reprinted Savage Sword of Conan: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus. www.comics.org/issue/1939017/#2649166I don't believe it was ever collected, but it would be easy enough to piece together a .cbr from available scans...

Come to think of it, I don't think DH reprinted the short version Ernie Chan did in CTB #87 either. Would like a consolidated version of Uncle Walt's version to be reprinted somewhere...

I have the Dark Horse omnibus reprints of Savage Sword of Conan volume #1 through #6 and #11 and #12. IMO, #11 and #12 there is a huge drop off in the quality of the art and the writing compared to the earlier issues. Before I consider dumping anymore money into my collection, where did the quality taper off?
Thank you

After Roy leaves, there is nothing great to be seen in the series. Everything after Thomas is very disposable.

After Roy leaves, there is nothing great to be seen in the series. Everything after Roy is very disposable. Yeah, I think that's about right. Even when Roy Thomas returns it's not quite the same. Still, I do like some of the stuff written by Chuck Dixon, Larry Yakata and Don Kraar. ...and there's some great art by Gary Kwapisz, Ernie Chan and Mike Docherty in those issues beyond 100.
