Interesting that you bring up Unreal engine. Sony has been investing in the parent company that makes it and some are speculating that it is precisely so they can use it in their future films.
The skills from making cgi movies and games are somewhat changeable and a former movie studio put out a game last year called Kena, so its possible as the tech gets better they can just use game engines to make movies rather than having dedicated software.
Thanks. I didn't know Sony were involved. Apparently Epic have been funding a number of animation projects for Unreal, including Gilgamesh: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_Enginewww.unrealengine.com/en-US/megagrants

The problem with a low budget movie is that we won't see an epic battle or gorgeous settings. We may even end up with dreadful CGI. Remember all the cheap fantasy movies we had in the 80s? Also without the support of a studio marketing - very costly these days - will be very limited and worldwide distribution could be an issue (like for Solomon Kane). I fear an independent, low budget movie would either be atrocious or quite good but seen by barely anyone (again like SK). I kind of agree with those two points, esp the second. For the first point - Neil Marshall's Centurion had some impressive stuff for a 12 mil budget. I'd imagine even the big budget epics like Troy (175 mil) etc would rely on cgi to boost the ranks during the larger battle scenes. I guess it all depends on how well it's done. I prefer practical effects generally.

I prefer practical effects generally. What I had in mind by "dreadful CGI" was mostly an unbelievable monster like the Scorpion King or the Gevaudan Beast in Brotherhood of the wolf (a lion that walked like a Komodo dragon) or the anaconda in the 1997 eponymous movie... You know the kind of stuff we see in some fantasy movies on SciFi Channel (rolling eyes).

Speaking of Unreal Engine… This video is over a year old but man, it makes it seem like a great cost-cutting shortcut for S&S type movies.
Just need costumes, props & a soundstage; the ability to use backgrounds for your setting makes fantasy much more affordable.

Looks like a great technique that solves a lot of problems. Wonder how much it costs to set up a rig like that.

John Buscema's Conan that kinda looks like Henry Cavill and another rendition based on Alan Ritchson (Reacher). is killing it as Jack Reacher Alan Ritchson seems to be knocking it out of the park as Reacher. Seen a few comments where fans of the franchise prefer his TV show presentation to the original book. One youtuber said: I've not seen it yet but could be interesting to see a Ritchson take on Conan. Cavill too.

In addition to a new season of Reacher, Ritchson just signed a 3 movie deal with Amazon so I wouldn't look for him to be the next Conan on film.

I read on one website that Amazon signed up for seasons 2 and 3 and that they'll be filming them back to back. Either way, you're probably right. There's enough material for a good long run of Reacher if they can keep up the quality. Lee Child had a 20 year run as a producer during the golden age of British TV before writing the books. He's involved with the Amazon show so he's kind of going back to his roots. I hear he plans to hand over the book writing to his brother sometime soon.

Since he's not longer in the DCEU or Altered Carbon, I think we need to give Joel a serious look again: I think he could carry a Conan streaming series very well. But it has to go back to Amazon. I think they are the best streaming service right now. I just got finished with Outer Range season one starring Josh Brolin and it was a great. Also, the new Bosch Legacy series is damn good, too. They screwed up Wheel of Time and already wasted their money on the LotR license, a masculine take on Conan could be just what the doctor ordered.

Thanks Monolith. Here's I Conan by Kyle McDonald. I, Conan! An adventure of swords, sorcery, seduction, and spectacle, Conan and the Stone of Kelior sees Conan the barbarian battling brigands, winning the favour of a Queen, and grappling with a Serpent of Shadow! Conan navigates Hyboria – a tumultuous and beautiful land – in quest of a Kingdom to call his own. Through the machinations of a mysterious Oracle he becomes embroiled in the search for a lost and arcane artifact, the Stone of Kelior, whose source of power is little understood. All of this culminates in a great and terrible revelation that forces Conan to choose between his dream – having his own kingdom – and his honour.

Especially if his future wife Kelly Gale portrays Belit in the upcoming series:
