At Howard Days, Fredrik Malmberg announced that they have everything in place and are just waiting on Netflix to make its final decision on greenlighting the series. He said he expects a decision from them within 6 months. As to the Solomon Kane series, he said they have thrown all their power behind getting the Conan series done, and hopefully, with that being a success, Kane and other Howard characters will be easier to get done. Did he give any details on format , writers , showrunner , actors they had in mind? _Anything_that might give us hope this might actually happen?

There’s a famous American saying that seems appropriate now: can’t anybody here play this game?

Iirc, Fredrik said they have the showrunner, maybe a director(?), and show bible, but no actors. He said they were aware of and going to change the real problematic stuff that was standard and acceptable in pulps in the '30's, i.e. racism, but that he didn't consider Conan to be an example of "toxic masculinity", but the exact opposite. It sounds like they're going to try and keep it as close to Howard's work as they can.

That’s fine, don’t think anyone would think otherwise. I guess I understand not announcing anyone if a pick up is still up in the air, but maybe getting the word out would build a little momentum towards a pick up. I don’t know, definitely frustrating to hear all the talk about the ability to do multiple projects on a variety of fronts (movies, series, animation) when there’s not even a guarantee they’ll do one. Frankly it might have been better not to announce anything until you’re sure there’s something that’s going to end up on screens in some form.

Thanks for the news, Bulbous 🍻
Hopefully it doesn't get the Wheel of Time treatment.

Thanks for the news, Bulbous 🍻 Hopefully it doesn't get the Wheel of Time treatment. Yeah, looking at Wheel of Time and the upcoming trailers for the Witcher: Blood Origin, Willow, and the Rings of Power they all look the same. It is the perfect time for a unique series like Conan.

I am hoping to see red light for this project.

One can only hope they'll do it properly, brother. All this shows had their problems, though I love The Witcher, despite certain bs changes. My only consolation is the fact that Malmberg knows how difficult Conan fandom is. And that fans will bury them if they make another shit, like they did back in 2011. They may surprise us all in the end. By Crom, I hope I'm right 🤔

I am hoping to see red light for this project. In all honesty I don't even know why they would bother with Conan seeing that they think it has 'problematic stuff', not that I think the project will ever get anywhere. They should just do something like Elric, there is a woke element to the doomed prince of Melnibone that kinda works for this day and age. Might be ok too if done right.

I get there are certain things that will have to be changed, no one should expect or even want a direct Vale of Lost Women adaptation. I know there's a whole lot of panic over Frost Giant's Daughter but honestly I don't see what the big issue is. Just have him tackle her, realize she's really cold and she breaks away. The scene is not dependent on the "warm you" line.
Other than that, they just need to shave some rough edges off. It doesn't have to be that difficult.

Vale should be a little polished, there is no doubt. But, when it comes to FGD, it is an eternal unknown to me how people, directors, studio do not understand that they just need to show that Cimmerian is under the spell of lust, and that magical influence is what drives him through the story, the way it drives him. Even the sound of ghostly whispers or vague voices in his mind would do the trick. One has to be an idiot not to understand what Atali is trying all the time. It's just that it ricochets in the end - with the fall of her giant brothers, her spells are still at work, and she finds herself in the position where the hunter becomes prey. In a word, she screwed herself into this. I dont see what the problem is.

Personally, I'd just as soon "they" not do a Conan show if they can't or wont do it properly.
One could easily make a fun barbarian show that doesn't trigger anyone and would entertain us grognards, just don't call it Conan.
Conan's world is brutal, savage and inequitable. It should be portrayed as such, and this could be accomplished without glorifying the savage inequities or suggesting they are "right".
An accurate portrayal of the Hyborian age should be presented as a "teachable moment", as in "look how far we've come....."
