There is an ongoing rumor son some FB and podcast that most production companies are waiting for both "House of Dragon" and "Rings of Power" to be released before investing into more high budget fantasy-action series.

If that’s the case it won’t be long now.

House of the Dragon should do alright. Even though skewed by PC messaging it looks much more competently produced than Rings of Power, which has been largely ratioed by the core fandom, but might just manage to appeal to fans of D+D style generic fantasy.

If true I dunno why they're waiting on Rings of Power and House of the Dragon. REH's Conan is nothing like that stuff. If they're as successful as they hope our Conan might end up like them

They have to compete in a world where one show got Kate Bush and Metallica back into prominence with 30 year old songs. I wonder what Amazon’s success template is because Wheel if Time sure as hell didn’t generate THAT much interest. Stranger Things is the GoT of today.

Amazon's own production Studio doesn't seem to know what it's doing frankly, imho. Amazon has much better judgement when it funds stuff made by other studios like Reacher, Terminal List and The Expanse, to name a few.

I know that is stupid to compare Howard works with House of Dragon and Rings of power but produces and big studies...lets say that most of them arent the sharpest knives in the kitchen.

If that's the case... Either way we lose. If they don't perform, we get nothing. If they perform, we get Wokenan. The sad thing is the Conan stories are diverse already, just sub out today's ethnicities for their Hyborian Age counterparts. Should be a ton of good supporting and guest starring roles around whoever plays Conan.

Have The Witcher and the new He-Man series been successful for Netflix in terms of viewership? If so shouldn’t that be enough to justify at least one season of Conan?
I’m not saying I want Conan to be like the new He-Man, because of some of the wokeness there. If we get something like The Witcher, that’ll be good though.
What’s the most edgy original content that Netflix have produced? Have they done anything even close to Heavy Metal or something akin to it? I did see the Midnight’s Edge episode where it was implied there was a creative tug of war between Netflix and Malmberg.

As far as I know series like "The Witcher" are expensive for the platform but they have good reviews and good audiences, and the most "Heavy Metal" thing that they have ever produced is "Love, Death and Robots", also they just recently announced a second season for "Bastard!!: a Heavy Metal Fnatasy" which is ths less NETFLIX thing that they have eve produced.

I’ve heard of Love, Death, and Robots. Will have to check that out and Bastard.
I can always relive the original REH yarns even if the series is never produced. I listened to the three Del Rey volumes on audiobook and that was a blast!

Karasuthecrow is correct about production studios, especially big ones. The execs often have to sift through reams of potential content ideas and aren't necessarily always up to speed on the individual intricacies of the content which they make the judgement calls on. The two big questions usually revolve around (or they used to, anyhow) 'how much will this cost?' and 'how much will this make?' the second of which usually involves comparing it with past productions like it that made good bank at the box office.
How much will it cost?
Fantasy Sci Fi and historical epics tend to involve bigger budgets than more mainstream thriller type fare because more has to be spent on finding unusual locations, making period accurate scenery and costumes and props and special effects.
How much will it make (based on what has come before in the recent market)
There should be a decent enough case to be made for the potential success of a Conan series from the success of The Witcher alone.
The Witcher was quite expensive to produce but is a big success for Netflix I believe and probably the closest thing on the market right now to a Conan series. Season 3 is currently filming. Some of the most successful episodes imho have been the ones that cleave closest to the original yarns by Sapkowski and feature Geralt in his most iconic role of roving monster hunting Witcher.
Not a million miles from a roving adventurer like Conan who wanders the Hyborian Age world and 'loves, fights and battles the supernatural,' as Clyde put it.

It's no wonder it has so many female viewers, at least half or even more. Not just because of Cavill.
I sincerely hope that Conan TV series, if it ever happens, will have no points of contact with Netflix Witcher, neither in terms of PC casting and script, nor in the butchering and making parody of the original material, nor in production design.

Honestly, there's zero hope for that if live action is what you want and it's a western production. Not in this day and age. Look at not only the Witcher, but Wheel of Time, and the upcoming LOTR: War of the Ring series. We aren't lucky enough to have multiple people (keep in mind there is a full writer's room on these shows) who can see the REH material for what it is and build a show around that. REH Properties/Heroic Signatures/Cabinet had their lost shot at an actual Conan live action work with the Mamoa film and they botched it by wasting the budget and Mamoa on a dog shit generic sword and sorcery script. Best bet is we get the Bastard!!: Heavy Metal Dark Fantasy route, with Netflix picking up an anime.
