I wonder if the newly released Guillermo Deltoro Cabinet of Curiosities anthology series will be factored into the Conan equation. A handful of pulp tales are being adapted, Lovecraft and Cthulhu Mythos related included. I watched The Cabinet of Curiosities adaptation of Kuttner's Graveyard Rats and enjoyed it thoroughly, looking forward to the HPL story episodes. If the Conan series is designed with the same respect for the source material I think it could be excellent. If Cabinet of Curiosities survives to more seasons perhaps we'll see some of REH's horror adapted, stories like Dig Me No Grave or The Black Stone would fit right in.

Nice, I'm going to try and catch up this weekend. Yeah I'd love to see those two and The Cairn on the Headland adapted. The Fairing Town stories would be cool, too. Maybe they could backdoor pilot a Conan story? Something short, appropriate, and economically feasible.... Maybe the God in the Bowl?

Kind of cross it with the "future" sequence from Conan the Barbarian #1 to give a clue of events to come and you got a story.

Sadly I think the HPL episodes are the weakest of Cabinet so far. Pickman is okay, but falls apart by the end, and Dreams is just underwhelming.

Agreed, Pickman is a very short tale and I understand the need to add more content to fill an hour tv show but the ending sequence seemed out of place. Dreams in the Witch House was a major disappointment to me, all the opportunity to show the cosmic wonder/horror of the story was thrown out the window and HPL characters were just shoehorned into an entirely different story. I did enjoy the cgi Brown Jenkin though.

I figured God in the Bowl would be easy because it's set in a temple and you wouldn't need to spend a ton of money on it. That's disappointing that they flubbed the HPL episodes. I was really looking forward to them, but was getting leery of especially Dreams when I saw the episode description.

The Pickman episode is ok and I would recommend it to a Lovecraft fan, it deviates and adds on to the story but in the I think it is still strongly Lovecraftian and even includes some dialogue from the story, the guy playing Pickman was a good choice too. They should have had Richard Stanley do Dreams in the Witch House, the visions of the alien world scene in Colour Out of Space is a good example of what the story is about. There is so much they could do if they approached Conan as part of an REH shared universe and cross referenced it with his horror and other weird tales, building the REH brand instead of just focusing on the single character. There would be hits and misses of course but eventually some people (like me) would start to watch anything REH related.

Solomon Kane would also work - Skulls in the Stars, Rattle of Bones, etc. There's already been a Pigeons from Hell adaptation they could draw on. Be nice to see some Clark Ashton Smith in a future series too.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo no news, then? Two years and things have not moved yet? Is there ANY hope for this thing to get off the ground? Noope. Closest thing we have to news is Fred said we may (or may not) get a decision from Netflix by the end of the year...or not. Two months and counting if we go by that calendar. He also said there is a showrunner and they were working on a show bible, but I guess the Amazon thing made them gunshy on announcing things. It's odd how nothing has even leaked as possibility of who would be doing it. There's...a little hope, but as we've seen even an actual announcement isn't a guarantee of anything, especially now with Netflix practically ripping the video out of the server right as it's about to air!

Netflix isn’t gonna do anything with the property. I think they wanted the rights just to tie up the property for two or three years until they can’t afford the Witcher anymore. It will probably bounce somewhere else and sit another few years. This is just pathetic on Malmberg’s part.

Yeah, they're even willing to announce Liam Hemsworth as The Witcher for the 4th season after losing Henry Cavill.
But still no green light for a Conan series announced 2 years ago in September 2020, this is not gonna happen.

Sounds like Henry may be busy over the next couple of years so they go with a cheaper Hemsworth option (at least it wasn’t Luke!). I’m not even convinced Season 4 will actually happen now. Unless this is ALL being done to create cash for Conan…sure is looking doubtful, isn’t it?
