Have they even submitted some kinda proposal to Netflix for them to consider and give a green light for a series? I believe that they had some script development, not sure if a showrunner had been in place or if a series Bible had been created. Fantasy is volcanic hot right now. The Witcher, Lord of the Rings, House of the Dragon, Willow, Wheel of Time etc. I would have hoped that a Conan project would be a priority. High Fantasy seems hot right now, however these properties are used as platforms to push politics and agendas, while the source material is viewed with contempt....... IMO, Amazon Prime seemed like the best option (non Fantasy shows like Reacher and Terminal List at least feature masculine, male leads). Netflix or Disney is not the place for Conan.

Leftist woke outfits like Netflix and Disney will never give you a Conan that is true, or close, to the source material.

I think what that might be is Netflix will be getting the 1985 Red Sonja film and will be using that poster on the site as art for the thumbnail or something along those lines.

The source material is not very conservative, either.

The source material is not very conservative, either. Definitely not something to read at a church social! On the other hand, the actions of Yasmela at Mitra’s altar, Olivia, Natala and Sancha as general damsels in distress and of course Belit’s mating dance would send the empowerment crowd into apoplexy. Howard is definitely a literary version of the quote Sam Elliott had about John Milius-He didn’t write stories for women and he didn’t write ‘em for p***ies.

Definitely a case where a man and his work are somewhat divergent.

Can we get rid of this thread if nothing happens this year?

Can we get rid of this thread if nothing happens this year? I'm for hanging it up on December 31. Then once we get something concrete, where ever it is, it can be a new thread.

Yeah, sounds about right. We seem to be going round in circles now in this thread. A new start, in a new thread, if the series gets a green light next year would be better.

REH dated Novalyne Ellis, on and off, from what I have read so he wasn't completely 'girlfriend free', and in pre suburbia America many men lived with their parents well into adulthood.
It's about REH's works, his larger than life characters, not about Howard's personal life, and personally, I think that was a low blow.

Some people still believe in De Camp's description of Howard as a crazy incel mama's boy it seems.

It wasn't intended such, but facts are facts whether we like them or not. Howard was gifted with am amazing imagination with which he created incredibly vivid stories. Of coourse there are some aspects of REH in his characters, but they are fantasies, however vivid. It's ironic how Lovecraft is always seen as the hermit-like neurotic loner, when he travelled far more widely than Howard or Smith
