I enjoyed Sicario a lot as well. I definitely didn't call some of the things that happened near the end. I knew little about it beforehand, so it was all a surprise to me. The development of one character - you know who I mean - was particularly unexpected. ...... Yep, that was exactly what I meant. I was also pleasantly surprised by Jon Bernthal's role. I love that guy. Also, I finally got around to watching Centurion. Fucking hell, that was badass. We need more Neil Marshall films, this and Dog Soldiers are tops.

Centurion is probably the most Howardian movie I can recall seeing, at least from recent times. I just saw The Martian, which was a pretty good adaptation of the book. Mostly faithful. Bridge of Spies is also good.

The Vikings on blu-ray - probably looks better now than it ever has. ...... Cool! I'd like to have that, plus Heston's The Warlord and El Cid all on blu-ray.

Valhalla Rising
I'll be honest, I have no idea what Refn was getting at with this movie, or what anything really meant. That being said, it had a cool, atmospheric vibe to it, and a bunch of scenes of Mads Mikkelsen brutalizing people with various weapons, so it's all cool.

Still ticked off the Weinsteins ran out of money for the Miriam collection before they could do 55 Days at Peking. But at least we got a great El Cid (and Fall of the Roman Empire, just not as good of a movie). I wonder who would do the Blu for that.

I finally got to see Gods of Egypt, and I enjoyed it. It was not merely eye candy, it was a visual feast. Kind of a lightweight story, except it asks the interesting question "Can a god grow?"

I've been rewatching the Ju-On/Grudge series and Ringu/The Ring series, since Sadako vs Kayako is supposed to be happening in June. It's been at times, and downright painful at others. XD

Say, anybody remember they were remaking Ben-Hur? I forgot too until the trailer dropped today:
I look at those scenes (sea battle, Messala, something with chariots)and yep, that's Ben-Hur. I did wonder if they remembered what the subtitle of the book was until I saw a few fleeting images towards the end. I guess how they have to sell it these days, "Look at all the cool stuff Judah does!!! It's just like 300!!!...oh yeah, then he saves his soul..."

Has anybody seen Admiral: Roaring Currents, a Korean movie about the famous Korean naval commander Yi Sun-sin? Yi Sun-sin defeats a Japanese fleet of 300 with only 12 ships at the Battle of Myeongnyang. www.imdb.com/title/tt3541262/
