Well it took two months of watching it little bits at a time on HBOGo but I finally saw Mad Max: Fury Road. I was a stunning looking film that deserved all the Oscars it won. I can't blame Tom Hardy for not being Mad Max to me (in fact to me he was channeling Steve McQueen more than anyone else), that's something I can;t get past but I don't hold it against the film. It did seem like it was a big pile of Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome mashed up and redone on a much bigger budget. It's almost like Miller's doing his own Rio-Bravo-El Dorado, taking big parts of the first film and reworking it into something similar but still different. Miller was reading my mind though, when I was younger I wanted the next sequel to Made Max to end with a 45 minute car chase, and that's exactly what was in this film.

Batman vs. Superman.
Is it perfect? No.
Is it the soul-destroying, mega-catastrophe, sub-Bay crapfest the critics have portrayed it as? Also no.
Affleck is great. Gadot is great. Cavill has really grown as Superman. If it has faults, they come from having too much ambition rather than too little. That's not a bad thing, sometimes.
Also, pay attention to the movie poster near the beginning. Oddly enough, BvS reminds me a bit of that movie, and it made a few things click for me.

A remake of a remake that not only can refer to the two "originals" but also has The Professionals, The Dirty Dozen and The Wild Bunch to draw from as well. I've thought if someone did remake the Mag 7, they should look to get a little closer to Samurai. It doesn't look like they're going this route, but it could be decent.

Has anyone seen Forbidden Empire?
It's a remake of 'Viy', a nice little Russian ghost movie from the 60's:

Yo! I just saw THE GIRL KING. It is about the scandalous queen Kristina of Sweden. I recommend to anyone who likes historic drama. Also on youtube (ofcourse) just ignore the subtitles.

Anyone seen Sauna / Filth ?
Got to promote another finnish movie. =)
Haunting and beautifully made, great acting and lovely visuals. Recommended if you are not shy about using your imagination, to debate with others and wonder. Not for those who need an explanation in the end. This movie will only leave you with questions.

Would make a good double feature with Christopher Smith's BLACK DEATH, starring Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne. Do you know of any other good horror movies from Finland?

I saw this movie on TV when I was a little kid, but just found out its name today:
It's got an all-star cast. There's a lot of cheesiness in the script, but also a some pulpy goodness. I wouldn't mind watching the whole film again sometime.

If you only saw it on TV you probably missed Julie Newmar's nude scene. Gentle by modern standards of course, but suitable for any issue of Spicy Western. And encountering it as a kid sure made an impression. Nothing like seeing a naked Catwoman engaged in a submerged aquatic cat fight to make a young boy sit up and take notice.
