So The Jericho Mile was originally a TV movie I watched as a kid and it really stuck with me my whole life. I have rewatched it many a time, mostly on an old VHS tape that I recorded from the TV broadcast. It's more than a running movie or a prison movie. Tremendous acting. It was filmed in a real prison with some real inmates used in the movie. Peter Strauss was fantastic in it. Brian Dennehy is an awesome villian and its directed by Michael Mann- the same guy who directed Heat. It's even got Bull from Night Court in it and the black guy from Magnum PI. I thought I would throw it out there here on this forum because this crowd might actually appreciate it, and because it came out on DVD not to long ago. This movie is in my top 5 of all time. Here's the into... Oh man I remember when that premiered on ABC.

Anytime I see Forrest Tucker in a movie or some tv show I think Larry Storch will pop up in the next scene. I would have loved having Rhonda Fleming starring opposite me as the love interest in any of those technicolor classics. Interestingly both Larry and Rhonda were born in 1923 and both are still with us! And who remembers that Forest and Larry (and Tracy) were the first Ghost Busters? I'm guilty as charged . They played that in my corner of the world all those years ago.

I watched the Eagle last night starring Channing Tatum and Jaime Belle, it wasn't bad. I didn't mind the modern dialogue, but the last scene of the film was such a different tone than the rest of the movie. 99% off the movie was an action film the likes of the 13th Warrior and Clive Owen's King Arthur, but the ending scene felt like the end of a buddy cop film.
The action and fight scenes were pretty good and the film was visually appealing. I'm not sure the Seal People were historically accurate but they looked cool. I also like how the main character is a Mithras worshiper. I first heard about him in Cornwell's Warlord (Arthurian) trilogy.
Kerp in mind I watched the unrated version, not the theatrical version.

If I'm not mistaken, I think that ending was a reshoot. I recall something about the original ending having Tatum's character burn the eagle at the end.

I can totally see that and wouldn't be surprised. The ending basically was like a half-assed sequel teaser, "Where do you want to go next?" Which in itself isn't too strange, since the books were a loose series. They all took place centuries apart and one of them focused on a stripped down, more historicized Arthur.

I popped the Bluray back in and watched the alternate ending. That's more like it.

I need to watch that off the BluRay because it does sound more fitting.

looks pretty cool.
I'm not the biggest Dune fan, but I'm a sucker for the sandworms.

Even bad David Lynch casts a pretty long shadow. Either that or Frank Herbert's descriptions leave people little room on how to depict them (Jodorowsky excepted)

Recently found out about an Italian film that would be of some interest here. It's The First King, about Romulus and Remus. All the dialogue is in Old Latin, the language of the time. Haven't seen it myself, but it certainly looks cool.
