Jack Kirby died on this day in 1994. Here's some art from two of his most wild-ass projects of the 1970s... Darkseid. Devil Dinosaur...

When all is said and done, Jack Kirby was the most influential creator to ever work in the comics field. He was mostly before my time, but I quickly got educated by way of lots of reprints. The Kirby Museum site is great for learning about all things Kirby: kirbymuseum.org/Jack's bio: kirbymuseum.org/biography/

That bites about Parks, when I was a little kid he had a show called Then Came Bronson which was obviously inspired by Easy Rider I suppose? He was great in that Mel Gibson flick that came out a few months ago...back to Kirby, I always thought his Thor work was his best....really high fantasy to the max. I thought Vince Coletta did a great job inking him tho most artists hated Coletta. I think I once read that Kirby was considered for doing the original Conan comic but he was getting paid a little to much during that time for Stan Lee to use him. Ironically it went to Smith who was pretty much a Kirby copycat early in his career. The rest is history...

The "effort" Marvel are putting into the celebration is pretty pathetic in comparison to DC. When you compare the time and characters he co-created when at Marvel and all they can do is reprint cheap copies of issues most of us have or have read to the new stuff DC are putting out is a disgrace , and not even a reprint of FF #1 either - presumably due to politics with Fox

That comic absolutely revolutionized the comics industry and launched an era of dominance for Marvel that lasted almost up to the present day. www.comicbookbrain.com/large-fantastic-four-1-jack-kirby.php
