As the Scots say, more or less: "Wha's greater than Frazetta?" "Damned few." "Aye, an' they're a' deid."

I read somewhere that FF loved prehistoric worlds, you see that aspect in much of his art, the mixing of prehistoric animals and primitive people. I think the 'prehistoric look' also comes out in his Conan and planetary adventure work for ERB's John Carter of Mars.

Some of the Hyborian city states are loosely based on late medieval principalities but REH's Hyborian world was a hodge podge of cultures that drew inspiration from the ancient, medieval and even the post medieval world, including cossacks from the 1600's, and the age of piracy. Seemed like FF was at home painting Conan fighting Picts and Snow Giants from the more primal corners of the Hyborian world.

...a new Frazetta book from Vanguard Frazetta Book Cover Art: The Definitive ReferenceVanguard follows last year's hit Fantastic Paintings of Frazetta book by J. David Spurlock with definitive reference on Frazetta Book Cover Art.Frazetta is the revolutionary fantasy artist of Conan, King Kong, Death Dealer, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Lord of The Rings and more, whose original art sells for millions. This new 2022 Frazetta book follows last year's hit, Fantastic Paintings of Frazetta and is similar to Vanguard's earlier Frazetta Definitive Reference book. By focusing on this specific area, the book boasts room enough to feature every single one of Frazetta's famous and highly collectable illustrated book covers, beautifully and authentically reproduced at a larger size on a page to itself. All are presented in chronological order which, gives readers a unique ability to follow Frazetta's evolution as an artist. Accompanying text includes commentary, original publication titles, publishers, dates, and rare quotes from the artist himself. For this Definitive Reference to feature the Complete Collection of Frazetta's decades of book cover illustrations, in a single beautifully produced volume, is a dream come true for Frazetta fans, art and book collectors and historians alike.Hardcover Size: 8.5 x 11 inches 168 pages $39.95 Slipcased Deluxe HC The Slipcased Deluxe edition will feature a 16-page bonus folio comprised of vintage Frazetta frontispiece drawings which, often opened early books Frazetta painted covers for. Given the recent passing of professional wrestler Scott Hall (Razor Ramone) my YouTube home page has been seeing a steady stream of videos related to him. I watched one today that showed his debut in Memphis for what I believe was Jerry "the King" Lawler's promotion, the CWA. What really struck me was the CWA poster on the back of the set. We never get a crystal clear image due to this being from an old tape but it looks pretty damn close to Frazetta's "Against the Gods" painting. I know Lawler is a Frazetta fan and an artist himself. Maybe he took some inspiration? The Video: IMO 5:42 starts the best view of the poster. The Painting:

Yup. Jerry Lawler is a pretty good artist, and painted that knock-off for the Memphis TV.

Most fans think of the book cover art when they think of Frazetta's art, although he was prolific in other areas such as art for movie promotions and magazines.

So will the main art feature the originals for the covers before they splashed the titles on em, maybe with a smaller reproduced pic of what they looked like as the actual book cover with all the writing.

Still no preview at Vanguard or anywhere else online, yet. This volume looks like it'll be impressive.
