Just ask Dark Horse how well it worked with Brian Wood… before the other stuff…

New trailer is up: I haven't watched it yet, will do so after work tonight. Not sure if it was talked about elsewhere, but I read The Witcher graphic novel omnibus a few years ago, enjoyed it a lot: www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/51194331The second omnibus will be out in September.

Thanks Irondavith! This is longer and better than the first brief trailer. Saw what's possibly a Shaelmar in there but didn't recognise the other beasties. A few glimpses of what looks like some cool fight choreography too.

Yep, fight scenes looking decent, reminiscent of The Butcher of Blavekin. I hope we haven't just seen them all already though 😅. At the end Jaskier is talking about monsters that look cute but suddenly have massive fangs - that rings a bell from the games as well, but I don't remember what they are right now.

One day when all is said and done with the Witcher series someone will have to put together a compilation of the best fight sequences from the show. Yeah, definitely.

It looks good, just a shame that Cavill won't be able to finish what he started.

Yeah I noticed the Wild Hunt but not sure how to classify them. They seem like extraplanar non-humans but the Witcher 3 game classes them as elementa which would make them a variety of monster requiring the silver blade.

Hopefully Shad Brooks or Skallagrim may give it a shot for their in depth overviews.

Watched Season 3 episode 1 and enjoyed it. Some excellent swordwork scenes by Cavill.
But...I forget a lot of what season 2 was about. Especially with the elf plot and the baby that got killed. I can only vaguely remember that plotline. Not going back to rewatch it, though so I'll keep plugging along.

I've seen up to episode 5 which is all they've released so far until July 29th when the last three will drop.
There are no spoilers in my summary.
I was able to track what was going on and who was who much better than season 2 which, like you, I have forgotten most of. Re-playing the Witcher 3 game helped as this time I recognised most of the side characters, although they are all in an earlier timeline than Witcher 3 enough prior events were referenced in it for me to recognise them and their relationships in the show.
The various factions and what they want are much clearer this time around. I feel they are getting a better sense of how to compose the overall narrative more effectively.
The best scenes imho are still centred around Geralt/Cavil especially in his capacity as monster hunter. He fights a weird beastie in episode two which I thought was one of the best sequences so far. Like you I thought the swordplay scenes were impressively staged particularly the larger combats.

I'm on episode 3 and I agree with the stats. This shit is putting me to sleep. The Geralt scenes are great, but everything else has me nodding off.

One of the issues is the sheer number of factions. I counted at least eight in addition to the central trio, all of which are likely from the source material, but that's a lot to pack into an eight episode season. I still think it's more strongly written than season 2.
Here's Forbes take:
And Netflix own figures:

Just finished S3E5....I swear if it wasn't for Cavill nobody would be watching this show. The writing isn't bad, you're right, Von K, but they seem to be hurrying the plot along and dropping scenes. For instance, we never saw Ciri leave Aretuza before she ran into Geralt and he ends up going back there with her. Just little stuff like that. I was thinking the scene where the Wild Hunt tried to get her was a dream or something, but it was real after all. I'll watch Part 2 of Season 3 for sure, but it will take a heavy lift for me to watch the Liam Hemsworth run. I think the only reason this show is watchable is Cavill in front of the camera and behind the scenes trying to keep as much of the original material intact as possible.

I have said this before.....IMO the show would be 100x better if the focus was "monster hunt/mystery of the week" format. Use The Witcher Season 2, Episode 1 as the example, X-Files meets Supernatural, but in a fantasy setting.
