Direct Market cover by Michael Higgins Regular cover by Jim Lee CONAN THE BARBARIAN: THE ORIGINAL MARVEL YEARS VOL.9Written by Val Semeiks, Charles Santino, Gerry Conway & Michael Higgins with Larry Hama, Don Perlin, Michael Fleisher, Roy Thomas & Glenn Herdling Penciled by Val Semeiks, Ron Lim & Gary Hartle with Gary Kwapisz, Don Perlin, Geoff Senoir, Alfredo Alcala, Jose Delbo, Dwayne Turner, Frank Springer & Rodney Ramos As Conan the Barbarian closed out the 1980s, it was a time of transition for the title - with storytelling innovations by veteran creators and new talent alike! In Val Semeiks’ climatic run on the title, Conan weighs pleasure and pain in a magical desert city, wrests the Blade of Zed from a mad cleric and runs a gantlet of fantastic beasts in a city of shadows. Lara Hama delivers the elegiac verse of “Drumsong,” while Don Perlin writes and draws the Western-styled “The Mask of Vengeance.” Gerry Conway makes Conan a cat’s paw to a cult of cat people, and Michael Higgins turns back the clock for an eight-issue storyline exploring Conan’s formative years in Cimmeria! Collecting Conan the Barbarian (1970) #214-240 and What If? #16704 pages $125 Release Date: 28 September 2022

"As Conan the Barbarian closed out the 1980s, it was a time of transition for the title..."
Can any veterans round here provide a little insight to this period, creator-wise? Was it a significant change from the past in terms of overall feel for the book?

CONAN BARBARIAN ORIGINAL MARVEL YEARS OMNIBUS HC VOLUME 07(W) Christopher Priest, Don Kraar (A) More (A/CA) John Buscema He was the writer that would put Black Panther back on the map of popularity in the late '90s, but in the '80s, Christopher Priest was editing-and writing-tales of Conan the Barbarian! The seventh volume in this popular Omnibus series collects the first half of Priest's run, as the writer assembles a cast of engaging supporting characters around Conan, including the haunted Tetra and the courageous Captain Delmuro, sending them in pursuit of treasure held by the wicked thief, Keiv. Priest also introduces to the color series one of the great super-villains in Marvel's Conan mythos-the Devourer of Souls. The dark reaver is one of Conan's most formidable foes, and their legendary battles begin here! Collecting CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1970) #172-194 & ANNUAL (1973) #10-11. IN STORES NEXT WEDNESDAY!

Was it a significant change from the past in terms of overall feel for the book? Yes. Buscema stuck around for quite a while, but the writers turned over quite a bit. They'd also run out of adaptations for the moment so it was all "original" stories. A lot of "monster of the month"s, but I don't think anything was abjectly bad until after the Owsley (aka Priest) run.

v07 already? I'd better hurry up and order v06.
I still can't decide about the Kull books. I've only read some of the SSoC stories, and I don't like the character nearly as much as Conan...

The color omnis are more notable for their art (the Severins and Ploog in the first and John Bolton in the second) than their writing.

^ Was there some overlap that happened in the original timeline between the two books? That almost sounds like the current two omnibuses will have some overlap?

I just got v06 which is the thinnest volume yet. This is strange considering v05 is the thickest volume so far.
What's the logic here?

It's either changed or it'll go into a V11, I suppose along with Conan the Adventurer since Roy wrote it.
