My #8 arrived, yay. With the wrong cover And I won't have time to get a replacement before I leave the country, so I guess I'm stuck with it!

Did you go for the Direct Market cover by Geoff Isherwood? Or the book market cover by Art Adams - I think?

I ordered the direct market variant but the other arrived 😒. It actually looks nicer up close than it does online, but still. Wish I had time to swap it but I won't be able to!

Usually I find the direct market covers superior to the modern ones. But in the case of # 8 of Conan the Barbarian omnibus, both covers are equally great and they do not look very different when it comes to art style. I'd be very happy with either one.

The composition of the regular cover reminds me of the Earl Norem cover for SSOC 14:

Yep, it does actually look better close up than I expected. And I'm deffo happy to have it. But it doesn't fit all my others now. Ah well, it could be worse!

The composition of the regular cover reminds me of the Earl Norem cover for SSOC 14: That's awesome. I found a copy of SSoC omnibus 1 at a good price, and it should arrive in the next day or two. I've decided to read the 5 issues related to Shadows of Zamboula in order as per the chronology thread you linked me to before. Looking forward to it

So glad to have the whole set! Nice! I have the first 3 omnis worth in epic collections, so it doesn't look quite as nice, but hey. Still great to have them.

Picked up volumes 2 & 3 (DM Covers) for £100 today at my local comic shop. Gotta resist trying to pick up beyond the Thomas run now.

Yes, the non-Thomas issues are largely a slog up until Jim Owsley’s run, which has a better overall tone than the other runs, IMHO. Still, having collected the entire set, you’re probably okay just picking up v10, which contains the remainder of Thomas’ run excepting the CtB backups in SSoC starting in #214, the various mid-90s minis which have yet to be collected and subsequent tries at reviving the franchise—Conan the Adventurer and Conan the Savage.

I'll pick up the 10th volume. I remember reading the comics at the time - it was good stuff, but it seemed to have lost the magic of the 1st run by Roy Thomas. I love the artwork by Buscema in volumes 5 & 6, unfortunately I cannot say the same about the writing by J.M. DeMatteis, Bruce Jones & Michael Fleisher. I agree the Jim Owsley is worth picking up, I stopped reading CtB after Buscema left. I'll probably pick up the 2nd volume when Jim Owsley is joined by Val Seimeks. Volume 9, by Crom & Tengri the only reason I'd pick this up is to complete the CtB omnibus series.
