Episode 2 was kind of a slow build, but it did pay off. Still... given the reaction to the first episode, I am betting a number of people had problems with this one. It was definitely a bit uncomfortable seeing the King court/go on a "date" with that young Velaryon girl. Indeed, there are some cringe moments in this, but I think that's the point. That icky scene in the garden made him marrying Alicent Hightower a bit easier to stomach at least (her actress is at least 19 years old). From next week's episode it looks like he's already off to a fast start as far as producing more heirs. This episode was pretty good, though. But next week looks much better. I like the little time jumps between episodes.

They're certainly not shying away from the odd Targaryean predilections!
Actually it looks like the thing causing the most uproar this week is the slightly familiar opening credits.
The only annoying thing with watching it streaming rather than as an HBO premiere is you don't get the next week's preview. You get the behind the scenes short instead.

I had the same problem with Game of Thrones when I didn't watch it on HBO specifically, I had to go hunting the preview out.

I started watching 20 minutes after it started streaming on HBO Max and got both the preview and behind the scenes.

Another enjoyable well produced episode all round. Still in the set-up phase so far. Some nice writing, subtext and character building. Looking forward to more.
Rhaenyra may be partly based on the historical Queen Matilda daughter of Henry 1st?

I’m enjoying this so far, but there are little seeds about how the world is sexist. I hope those seeds don’t flourish into overgrown weeds that take over the show. Still its very good.

It's going to be an ongoing focus of the show, the trick is going to be maintaining the balance between making the point and beating you over the head with it. Thus far I'd say this show and She Hulk for that matter are making the point without it being ponderous. But it could slip at any second if they're not careful. The Lord of the Rings will certain have this as part of their package. For Wheel of Time, the showrunners have practically made this the point of their show and many times it did cross over into the "OK we get it, men suck!" area, before trying to correct it by showing how bad the women can be.

So far with HotD they seem to be presenting any PC commentary as being the personal viewpoint of certain characters (particularly the king's sister) which is a more naturalistic, sensible and less immersion breaking way to do it. We're only a fifth of the way into what is a 10 episode series of a planned three seasons, so it's early days yet.
She-Hulk however is a whole 'nother story imho, but since you and Hun and perhaps other members of the forum are enjoying it I shall remain silent.

I can see how some people can read things into the script since...well it's right in there. But so far, it's in the tone of the Byrne run. Marvel can tread the line but when they fall over into it, it's a mess (the last episode of Falcon/Winter Soldier, parts of Eternals and Captain Marvel).

The patriarchy keeping down the ladies of Westeros will be ongoing but preaching about it shouldn't be an issue. I have a passing familiarity with the source material and I don't think we have much to worry about.
But after seeing these first two episodes the cast and crew definitely have what it takes to pull off some epic storylines that are coming up. This is really like watching a short film each week.
