No, in Fire & Blood he tells Haelena's three children a bedtime story, then dies in his sleep. A servant discovers him and goes straight to the Queen, as arranged. She gets Criston Cole, they seal off the room and then wake up the small counci.
One source the maester who wrote Fire & Blood refers to is a dwarf jester named Mushroom, his accounts of major events are more salacious. He's not in the show. He stated the Queen poisoned the king that night but Mushroom wasn't even in King's Landing that night, he was on Dragonstone with Daemon and Rhaenyra.
Also, Viserys is not nearlyas ill as he is in the show. He's overweight, gets winded easily, and has gout pretty bad, but he is not a leper. Thanks for the additional details Jason. Given the unreliability of the original sources I guess the show's interpretation is as valid as any of them. Yeah, the Maester writing Fire & Blood tends to go with a Septon's account of what happened over Mushroom's, but who can say for sure what really happened. His accounts are usually more salacious and funny. A lot of people at court thought him a halfwit, but he wasn't, so he was privy to a lot he shouldn't have been. Or so the story goes.

Fair to say that if the inhabitants of Westeros could've controlled their animals a little better, so many things would've turned out differently?

Dragons reverting to type perhaps?
Gonna be a long wait before the next season airs.

At this rate, House of the Dragon will be down before Winds of Winter! Ooh, I wonder what the over/under is of HoD ending before WoW is published? It would be an interesting bet.

Put my money on Dragon! Seriously, he needs to just stop at this point, clean it up so at least it reads like a decent narrative flow and put it out. The rest will just have to wait. He concocted a story while he was supposed to be finishing Winter that will end up taking up at least FOUR seasons on TV. Why couldn't this have waited?

Once again I think they need to fix how a human actor looks in front of a dragon on a green screen. It happened again in this episode with Daemon and Caraxes, just like it did with Young Aemond and Vhagar four or five episodes back, when he was taming him. I used the image as the episode title card. Added some House Baratheon lore for you guys, they are actually pretty important. Targaryen blood ruled from the Iron Throne even after Aerys was usurped during Robert's Rebellion. Ooh, I wonder what the over/under is of HoD ending before WoW is published? I think there was money to be made, and HBO needed source material to work with. Why they didn't just shoot a Dunk and Egg series, I have no idea. He at least had three of those stories written and published.

Another great vid Jason. Thanks for the xtra background info.
The HotD team have won an audience as large as GoT at it's peak I have read. Magnificent achievement for a first season.

The Ep 10 scene where Prince Aemond reveals his sapphire eye seemed framed as a nod to Moorcock's Prince Corum imho [\spoiler]

Cool, that's in Fire & Blood. Martin is really pulling from Moorcock, then.

Oh yeah, there’s definitely that in there. Will someone have a jewel in his skull next? 🙂

Perhaps that's what he means by being 75% done? Or more likely that's just wishful thinking, but it would be nice if that remaining 25% was cleaning it up and editing. Anyway, he doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry anymore now that the original series has ended. While GoT was still hot and nearly at an end, perhaps he saw an opportunity for another spin-off if he concentrated on Fire & Blood. Seems to be more of a strategy in that regard, because it didn't take long for HoD to come out.

GRRM has been making the rounds to promote this "new" book Rise of the Dragon that's really just repackaged/rewritten material from Fire & Blood into a more traditional source book/reference style.
He wanted to start even earlier in the Targaryen reign, but no one else went for it.
Here's GRRM with more info on Winds. If his publishers didn't have the "new" book coming out, I guarantee you they'd make him split Winds into two books. They still might if he doesn't finish in the next two years.
