Wow, what a way for Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser to make their television debut.... kind of. They even shared a scene with Elric...kind of. But what an episode! That’s one way to look at it! Or the Westeros version of Sophie’s Choice. It hit me tonight: the same kind of thinking that cost us Ryan’s Conan show gave us the Acolyte as well. But it also gave us this. If you want to “go there” you have to know how to do it. This show does.

Alternate end of episode 3-Alicent and Rhaenyra decide to mend fences after the misunderstanding and announce forgiveness. What happens next? Still see a mess but it would certainly turn it differently than the end we know is coming.
Game of Thrones is almost like Three’s Company, everything stems from a misunderstanding.

LOL that was a pretty good scene. Alicent was like, "Oh shit, that's what he meant." Aside from that I thought this episode was the slowest so far, but the Harrenhall sets were especially well done. Great to see the Brackens and Blackwood feud on screen like this. They've hated each other for years and will continue to do so.

I tried to put the following in a spoiler tag but f'd it up right royally.
Spoilerssss belowwwwww!
Between Daemon in his armor on the dragon and Aemond with his saphire eyeI kept getting flashbacks to Moorcock's Elric of Melnibone and Prince Corum with the Eye of Kwyll. To the point where I could swear they were pulling some of the imagery in a couple of the shots (over episodes 1 -3) from James Cawthorn's illustrated version of Stormbringer.
GRRM's implicit allegory between the power of dragons and nuclear weapons came up a bit more clearly this episode at one point.
Yep, slow build and looks like they're setting up a big confrontation at Harrenhall for episode 4.
Daemon's gettn' all Macbethy with those gruesome guilt visions at Harrenhall. "Is this a severed head I see before me?" Isn't that place supposed to be haunted?
Rhaenyra's daring gamble made no sense to me. Whilst I can admire her courage and determination and what she is willing to risk to de-escalate the conflict, she must know that the Queen Dowager Alicent no longer has any real power at the green's court. So apart from her personal desire to know the truth and wanting the truth to be known about King Viserys' last words, tactically it makes no sense, though I guess emotionally it does. [/SPOILER]

[ SPOILER ] Yada Yada. [/ SPOILER] without the spaces keep the brackets tight.
I think the Daemon vision at Harrenhall has to do with the weirwood tree he was beside.
Those are probably the more fantastical elements in Westeros.
Jaime has a really cool dream in the books when he falls asleep with his head on the root of one. That dream has some people believing he is the Prince That Was Promised.

Thanks for the feedback Jason (on both topics).
As you can see by my test post above I can get spoiler tags to work according to your advice, but when I tried to edit my previous post it didn't work. I'm going to abandon it for now and will have to be a bit more careful in my use of it going forward.

I think that was the biggest complaint about this episode, as it made no sense to a LOT of fans. This was something that was added for the TV show and was never in the book, and I agree that it was completely unnecessary. Not to mention totally reckless and extremely risky! I don't think the book version of Rhaenyra was ever at a point where she wanted to make amends so late in the game like this, so to me, this was a frustrating scene.

Even the better writer's go off book from time to time it seems. Perhaps they'll add a bit of context for the change in the next episode.
Edit: wahey - I got the spoiler tags to work!

Edit: wahey - I got the spoiler tags to work! Congrats! lol I hope they do. I did find it a bit humorous too, though. In one scene, they were discussing Rhaenyra sneaking into King's Landing, then suddenly, in the very next scene, there she is sneaking in! Maybe they should've squeezed a different scene with other characters in there first to at least give more of a sense of time passing.
